Arts Weeks with Sycamore.

Over the last few days, Sycamore have enjoyed exploring our Arts Weeks theme of kindness. We have been filling out a kindness diary each day as well as focusing on the skill of collage to create hearts. We have also enjoyed responding to the work of the artist Beatriz Milhazes.

Money heroes!

Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed exploring the 'Bunny and Ed' books, created by Money Heroes, an award-winning Financial Education programme from Young Enterprise.

After finding out how Ed and Bunny like to spend and save their money, they worked hard on their competition entries, creating their own characters who could feature in the next book!

Year 4 - Music

Year 4 continue to practise their skills on the Ukuleles. This week, they learnt a new chord and used it when playing a new song. Well done Year 4!

Year 4 - Printing

Ash Tree class enjoyed practising their printing skills in preparation for a piece of art work later in the week which will including collage and printing.

The children decided that next time, we should use a thicker medium to print with to ensure the print stands out clearly.

Year 4 - DT

Year 4 have enjoyed using the Design, Make, Evaluate process in DT while making Victorian style hot-pads. These squares of quilted fabric would have been used as oven gloves.

We looked at examples of hot-pads before deciding on our own designs. We knew that we could evaluate as we went along and changed the design to make it simpler or more detailed, depending on how we found the sewing.

We then hemmed our fabric squares (made from our second-hand pillowcases), turn them inside out and added a square of fleece. After sewing up the gap, we added on our quilting designs.

Arts Weeks Begins!

It was lovely to see children excited about this year's Arts Weeks celebrations. The theme for this year's projects is kindness. Each class from Nursery to Year 6 has been allocated a book and an artist to learn about.
