Celebrating European Day of Languages at Bannockburn

This week at Bannockburn we have been sharing our language skills to celebrate European Day of Languages, which takes place each year on 26th September. In classes we have been discussing our language diversity and teaching each other basic phrases from languages we know; at Bannockburn we celebrate all languages not just European ones! We have also been reflecting on the advantages that having foreign language skills brings during both lessons and our assembly this week.

Year 1 - Lemon Tree Robot Boogie!

This week we had a fantastic time in our Music lesson with Mrs Manser learning a special robot song. It was lots of fun dancing like a robot and singing in our super robot voices , we were so great that Mrs Manser was worried we had turned into real robots!

Year 5 Rowan's Royal Observatory Trip

Look at all of the incredible things we had the opportunity to explore at the observatory! We really enjoyed the presentation in the planetarium! Who knew there were so many stars!

Year 6 Art with Miss Chapman

This week, we have been writing descriptions about a jungle setting in English. We decided that we wanted to try to recreate some of the beautiful foliage that we have been writing about. In Art today, we looked closely at the shape, colour, tones and textures of foliage before using oil pastels to develop our blending skills. We found using the white pastel to add highlights the most tricky today- that will be our focus when we have another go next week. Miss Chapman supported us by modelling the skills that we would need- but we were most impressed when she finished our Art lesson in French!

Dinosaur Discovery!

Dinosaur Discovery!

Year 3 have been so busy learning about Dinosaurs we forgot to share our learning from our Dinosaur Day!
At the start of our topic we took part in some fun activities, stepping in to the shoes of dinosaur archaeologists. Did you know they are called palaeontologists? They search for fossils! We excavated dinosaur bones from the sand, chipped away at ice fossils and uncovered dinosaur skeletons.

This week we are learning about a famous fossil hunter from the past. Her name was Mary Anning. What can you predict about her from this picture?

The stuntmen performed some amazing treats on bicycles to the amazement of the children on both High St and Manor Way sites.
