Electricity
This term, children in Year 4 had a fun time learning about electricity. First, they learned about how electricity is made and gets to our homes. They looked at various devices and appliances that use electricity and then they explored various conductors and insulators to make their own switches. Finally, they had a chance to use various components to build a working circuit.
Today, Year 4 Pine class designed and began to create cushion covers with a nature theme. The children chose their design using nature as their inspiration.
First, pupils drew simple trees, flowers and animals. Once they were happy with their design, they used pencils to transfer the outline onto felt material.

The children then sewed three sides of two squares of felt together using a running stitch. We tried hard to ensure our stitches were the same in size and equally spaced so that our end product was as neat and tidy as possible.
Tomorrow we will stuff our cushion with scrap pieces of felt material and seal up the open side with a running stitch. The children are excited to take the finished product home to show their adults!
Year 4 - Deepening Understanding in Maths
This term, in Year 4, pupils are deepening their understanding in Maths by further developing their vocabulary and reasoning skills to explain concepts for solving calculations. We have been using a range of resources to demonstrate how an understanding of place value can be used when multiplying larger numbers.
Year 4 spent last term learning all about La Fruta and they started learning about how Spanish nouns have gender. They played games and completed tasks in pairs and small groups to sort their fruit vocabulary and understand how to recognise masculine and feminine nouns in Spanish. This knowledge will be useful to them as we progress through the rest of the Spanish curriculum via other topics.
This term, pupils in Pine have been developing their skills in the kitchen by making pizzas. They looked incredible and tasted amazing.
