Year 4 visit the 'Puzzling Sweet Shop'

This week in Maths, we looked at using addition and subtraction of 2 and 3-digit numbers in a real life scenario. We used our model money to support us to look at how many different ways we could spend our budget on sweets! Taking a trip to the ‘Puzzling Sweet Shop’ showed us the importance of working systematically to accurately find different addition possibilities.

 International Day

Year 4 pupils learned about how Japan and how it deals with natural disasters. Using a range of materials and working collaboratively, pupils created structures that had to endure an earthquake simulator. There were some fantastic designs that proved to be tall and secure.

PE Team Games in Year 4

Pine Tree took on some interesting team building skills this week during PE. The children were arranged standing on a bench. They had to ordered themselves in order of various categories e.g. height, age, the number of their houses etc. The rules were: they were not allowed to fall off the bench otherwise they would have to start again, they had to communicate with each other and they had to support each other.

After a few tries, some teams needed some help so we introduced a wall to hold onto or a mat to step onto. The children agreed this made it easier. They understood the importance of communicating with each other, not all talking at once and supporting those who needed it. Year 4 will be taking on some more team challenges throughout this term!
