Making Clay Pots with Lime Tree.

Today the children loved manipulating the clay to make a pot. They could follow instructions to make the pot and used utensils to etch different designs to their clay

 

Year 3 - Clay Pot

This term, Year 3 have been learning about ceramics and how to use tools to manipulate clay. We learned how to carve into clay using a range of different tools and then used these skills to plan a design and the decorate a clay tile. After we decorated our clay tile, we then created a pinch pot. Once we were happy with the shape of our pots we decorated them. 

 

Year 4 Ash class explore clay

In line with our topic Natural Disasters, this half term we are making clay pots - just like the ones found in Pompeii after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius! Before making our final product, as part of the planning stage, we have been looking at how we can manipulate clay in different ways in order to create different outcomes. 

In our art lesson this week, we rolled, pinched, wedged and developed how to use slip and score to attach two pieces of clay. All useful skills for when we'll make our pots and attach their handles!
