Yr 5/6 Geography enrichment trip

Yr 5/6 Geography Enrichment trip

A number of children from Years 5 and 6 were specially selected to go on an enrichment trip to the Royal Geographical Society and the Natural History Museum to develop a greater understanding of the world around them.

First, pupils went to the Everest Exhibition were they explored in more detail how natural phenomena, like mountains, are formed.

Next, they went to the Natural History Museum where they looked at how tectonic plates have shaped the landscape over millions of years. They looked at how the continuous movement of these plates have caused devastating natural disasters in various locations around the world. Pupils particularly enjoyed the experience of being in an earthquake on the Kobe Supermarket Simulator.

Mount Everest with Year 2!

Today we learnt about Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. We looked at why they are significant explorers and how they were able to reach the top of Mount Everest. We sequenced their journey in chronological order and learnt about what happened at each part of their exploration. We also imagined we were climbing up Mount Everest and discussed how the explorers might have felt throughout their journey.
