Junior Travel Ambassadors first meetings of the year

This week our Junior Travel Ambassadors, also known as JTA, met with Mrs Seaton to discuss their aims for the year ahead and how they can promote their cause.

Firstly the JTA children from High Street site went for a walk outside the school gates to observe the traffic and vehicles on Plumstead High Street. We talked about the road markings already in place to protect us such as yellow lines, yellow zigzags and  speed circles and then discussed how we can get our pavement safety railings back in place which the council sadly took away!

At MW the team members talked about safe cycling as part of Cycle to School Week and shared local places we can visit and safely cycle there. This includes: Winns Common, Plumstead Gardens, The Thames Path, Danson Park, Charlton Park and we also shared some places further afield like Epping Forest and Hyde Park. Then we attempted to make some physical art to promote Cycle to School Week 2022 - can you work out which word we are spelling out?!

Walk to School Week was great - now let's try and walk EVERY week!

Walk to School Week 2020 was great - children at both sites made a really great effort to walk, scoot, cycle and 'park and stride' to school during Walk to School Week and hopefully will continue to use active travel to and from school for the rest of the year.

Here are just a few photos that represent our Walk to School Week, from signatures and stickers, to badges and banners. Well done to Pear, Walnut and Aspen classes for the photos.

Walk to School Week 2020: Monday 5th October

At Bannockburn our Junior Travel Ambassadors Team proudly encourage everyone to use an active travel means to get to and from school, for the various physical and mental health benefits, plus the environmental and road safety advantages that having less cars around our school vicinity brings.

That is why we recognise Walk To School Week 2020, which begins on Monday 5th October 2020. As part of the week, children will have a class assembly and spend time discussing why walking, scooting or cycling to and from school is a great thing to do - if you can park and ride (which means parking or getting off the bus at least a 10-minute walk from school premises) then you will also be showing a commitment to active travel, so well done!

There is also a poster competition you can enter before Walk to School Week starts on Monday 5th October, the link is here:
