Year 2 investigate... GERMS!

This week, Year 2 have begun to investigate germs as part of our healthy living science topic. We want to understand how germs and bacteria are spread and whether washing your hands with soap and water really works to reduce the spread!

Method.

1. We placed our unwashed hands over one piece of bread and the sealed it in a zip lock bag.

2. We then thoroughly washed our hands with soap and water before touching the next piece bread and again placing it in a sealed zip lock bag.

3. Our third piece of bread is our 'control' bread. This piece was handled with a glove on and did not touch our hands at all, again placing it in a sealed zip lock bag.

We will monitor the bread for changes and see if we can answer our questions next week!

Recycling Reports - Home Learning in Year 3

For the last three weeks, Year 3 have been building up to writing their own non-chronological reports about Recycling during their English lessons.

We looked at many examples and learnt about the features of non-chronological reports. As well as this, we did our own research at home and came up with four sub-headings, a title, statistics and data to name a few.

Despite not being at school in our own classrooms, many of the children worked incredibly hard to produce creative and thoughtful work at home.

Please enjoy looking at the photos to see a selection of the wonderful work that has been created!

Year 5 Home Learning

Well done to everybody who has completed their home learning tasks this week.

We hope you enjoyed the activities that your teachers set for you. Do not forget to email us your home learning at:

workingtogether@bannockburn.greenwich.sch.uk

so that we can share it here on the school blog.

Here are some examples of the fantastic learning that has taken place this week at home.

Gurneet has written a thought-provoking acrostic poem. We really like the adventurous vocabulary you have chosen, Gurneet.

Dylan has also used some adventurous vocabulary in his acrostic poem. Can you spot the simile he has used?

Dylan's newspaper report shows an amazing amount of effort and it is clear that he drafted and edited his writing to include a range of punctuation and sentence structures. Well done Dylan!

Rhia has also written an engaging newspaper report. She has written in clear paragraphs and has included quotes. We love the alliteration in the heading! A fantastic effort Rhia!

We have now officially entered into the summer solstice - I wonder what you can find out about the meaning of this?

As always, thank you for all the hard work that you are continuing to do both at home and at school and please do keep sending in photos of your work - it really is lovely to see.

Nimrat in Linden Tree Class has written an acrostic poem about the Year 6 teachers - this really did make us all smile!

Year 3 Learning at Home

Well done to these Year 3 children for all the effort they are putting into their learning while at home. It's great to see you working hard at your maths and enjoying your art tasks as well!
I agree, you are very smart!

This picture from Ranvir looks fantastic!

Year 5 Hawthorn - Home Learning

Hayleigh has completed some fantastic pieces of artwork as part of Arts Weeks, including a Japanese Sakura painting and a photo collage. She also wrote about the pop art and graffiti artist, Keith Haring. Well done Hayleigh - we really enjoyed looking at what you achieved.

Year 5 - Online Learning

Good morning Year 5!

I hope you have all had a good week.

I'd like to recommend the Good News Network to you. It is a website that reports good news only and there is a section for children which you can find here: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/category/news/kids/

You can also catch up with news from around the world here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround

Our own good news is that nearly every class has increased the amount of learning they have done on Mathletics and Reading Eggspress - fantastic! Keep up the good work. Here are our winners this week...

Reading Eggspress: Rowan Tree

Mathletics: Hawthorn Tree

Our home learning will be changing slightly from next week. Instead of one document of Maths and one document of Writing, your teachers have been working hard to make slides and tasks that you can follow each day, like in school. You can find them in the Home Learning section of the website.

Please do get in touch if you need any help with any of the activities.

Take care,

Mrs Stone and the Year 5 Team
