Super Scientists!

As part of our science topic, Light and Shadows, Year 3 have been investigating which materials would be the best for keeping us safe and visible at night time!

We tested a range of materials to see if they were reflective or not. Some materials we tested were not great; others were reflecting the light back or scattering the light in different directions. This meant these materials would be better at helping us to be visible at night time!

We ordered the materials from most reflective to least and made a decision on which to use for our new high-viz jackets! We also had lots of fun being scientists and designers!

‘I like rowing because it gets me out of the wheelchair...' Determination from the perspective of a Paralympian

On Monday 25th June, Year 5 had a very special guest visit to talk about this month’s value, Determination. Benjamin Pritchard is a member of Team GB’s British Rowing Team. He shared his inspirational story of how he was able to overcome a life-changing injury, which saw him transition from a successful triathlete and cyclist to a rising star in Paralympic sport.

After an accident in 2016, Benjamin had to adjust to life as a wheelchair user. He spoke to the children about the challenges he faced when first leaving the hospital and taking up a new skill as an adaptive rower. However, with the right attitude, passion, and determination he was able to set new goals to get back to doing what he loved best – sport! Now with a number of awards and new records set, Benjamin is proof that no matter what challenges you may face in life, with the right attitude and determination you are able to achieve!

Year 6 - Reflections on our Successes

As we are getting ready for SATs, we have been reflecting on our achievements over the year. We have achieved so much and learned so much about ourselves as learners.

"This year I have realised that I need to believe in myself much more because I know I can achieve so much. I feel so proud of myself from getting this far and I feel that in the future I will be able to enjoy success in whatever I choose to do. I feel proud of my school and the contribution I make towards it."
-Year 6 pupil, Aspen

"I feel great about myself as a learner this year because I have learnt so much and I have improved my behaviour for learning lots. I feel successful and proud of myself and I enjoy sharing my learning with my family. I have some really good friends at school and the adults at school help us to solve problems when they happen."
-Year 6 pupil, Aspen

"I feel great as a learner at Bannockburn and I'm proud of myself for focusing on my learning and giving 100% effort every day. I know that I'm ready for new challenges at my secondary school and I'm prepared for what comes next-I'm going to be a great student! I've made a lot of progress this year and I know it's because I have put so much in and cooperated with other learners."
