Puppet making in Year 2 - Design, Make and Evaluate!

Over the past few weeks, Year 2 have been designing puppets as part of our 'Stories through Music' topic. As part of the design, make and evaluate process the children learnt how to sew using a running stitch. Once they had gained this new skill, it was time to make the puppets.

Take a look at some of our finished products!

DT in Year 2- Hinges, Hinges Everywhere!

In the next few weeks, Year 2 will be making string instruments complete with an instrument stand that features a hinge. As part of the design process the children learnt about hinges and then identified them in the classroom. We finished off the lesson by attempting to make a simple hinge from paper and card.

Values Team discussions on the School Values mural project

As part of the plans to create our school mural, the Manor Way Values Team met with Mrs Seaton recently to feedback from classes and debate which values should feature on the design and why they were the most important values to our school and wider local community. There were lots of different opinions amongst the group so we had to listen to each other and respect each other's opinions, even if we didn't agree.

High Street Values Team children also met with the High Street Junior Leadership team members to share their feedback on how everyone in the Bannockburn community shows our school values and to discuss how we might want this represented in the mural design.

If you have any suggestions for the Values mural project, speak to your class Values Team member or make some notes in your class PLG book.

Clay Mayan Stelas in Linden

This week in Year 6 we have been designing and making ancient Mayan stela using clay as our medium. We researched the history behind stela and then designed our own ones featuring patterns, faces and hieroglyphs. Then we got messy with the clay to create them, using the wire stands we also built to help support them and stand them up.

Year 6 become French fashion designers - c'est chic!

In our Year 6 French lessons this term, we are learning how to describe clothes and fashion. We have learnt names for many different items of clothing and explored their genders. Next we have learnt how to use colours to describe clothing and the basics of adjectival agreement - the grammar is tricky but with lots of practice, we are getting the hang of it!

This week we started designing our own fashion catwalk outfits using items from the high street, so that we can write descriptions in the coming weeks.

Bannockburn celebrates European Day of Languages 2020

This day is celebrated on 26th September every year in countries across Europe.

The objectives of the day are: to encourage people to think about the importance of learning languages; to encourage lifelong learning of languages for everyone; and to promote European languages.

At Bannockburn we celebrate all languages, not just European ones!

We always display our multilingual classroom signs outside our doors.

This year you can enter the official EdoL T-shirt design competition - ask your class teacher for a form to enter!

Persevering with our Periscopes in Year 6 Elm Tree Class

This week in Elm Tree we used our scientific knowledge and our DT skills to build periscopes using recycled boxes.

It was a difficult yet really fun challenge; through working in groups and showing values such perseverance, cooperation and effort, we all made contraptions, some of which were successful and worked exactly as periscopes should work.
