This week the children in Apple Tree have enjoyed using the computer to create their own aliens. We thought carefully about the colours we wanted our aliens to be and chose different eyes, ears, mouth and arms to make our aliens look as strange as possible. We have tried really hard to use the mouse to create our pictures independently. We are getting so good!! We enjoyed imagining names for our aliens and the different planets they live.
What would your alien look like if you were to create one?

Reception - High or Low?
Reception Music Lessons
Children in Reception have been looking at how music is written out. They have learnt how to read rhythms, and now are starting to explore musical pitch.
We are using Boomwhackers and bells to explore high sounds and low sounds, and looking at how written music shows high and low!
Do you think the big red Boomwhackers would make a higher or lower sounds than the small purple ones?
When music is written down, we use 5 lines called a stave. It is like a ladder. The higher up the ladder the notes, the higher the pitch.
We also play a warm up game called the 'Elevator Song'.

Reception - Roots to Food rocks!
Today we had the delight of welcoming Darren, a Roots to Food representative, into the High Street site.
The day began with a thoroughly interesting assembly, where we found out about the different food groups and where we get all of our energy from.
From there, we took part in smaller group sessions, where we got our hearts pumping through moving, shaking and jumping activities.
We listened carefully as we learnt about our own portion sizes and how many portions of fruit and vegetables we needed each day to keep fit and healthy.

Finally, we replenished our energy reserves with scrumptious banana shakes. What fun!

Reception Apple Tree Class - trip to Woolwich
Apple Tree Class
This week we went on a trip to Woolwich Fruit and Vegetable Market. We travelled there by bus and met Tony the Greengrocer, who helped us choose lots of different types of fruit to bring back to school.
When we got back we tasted everything that and then made banana bread, yum yum!
On Friday we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite story book character and designing our own book tokens!

Reception Apple Tree Class - How to Grow a Dinosaur
Apple Tree Class
This week we have been reading our new topic book, 'How to grow a Dinosaur' and looking at the different types of dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago. We researched the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, Pterodactyl and Diplodocus and found out as many facts as we could before drawing and writing about them in our special work books.
We also used some 2-D shapes to create pictures of different types of dinosaurs.
Can you guess which dinosaurs they are?

Reception - Enjoying Christmas dinner!
This week Apple, Cherry, Orange and Pear all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner. We all designed our own party hats to wear for the occasion and showed them off to one another.
After sharing our creations, our adults all served us delicious food, which we all ate with glee.

Reception - The Great Reception Bake Off!
This week all of the Reception classes have been busy cooking a whole manner of different space themed goodies, from moon rocks to star biscuits. We thought about the importance of washing our hands beforehand and keeping safe around cooking utensils before mixing all of the ingredients together and cooking. It smelt delicious! Afterwards, we wrapped them all up and sold them to the parents... they were gone in minutes! All in all, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
