Number Chains in Year 2

In Maths this week, we focused on dividing and grouping numbers. We have used several types of concrete materials and had many discussions about sharing. Our favourite lesson was our Active Maths lesson! We had to move around the hall in different ways (hopping, skipping, jumping etc.) and when we heard ‘Number Chains’ and a number, we linked arms and created number chains. We looked at how many groups there were and used our times table knowledge to help us. We discussed how repeated addition helps us when using multiplication and division.

Year 2- Web Quest!

This half term, Year 2 have been making string instruments as part of a Design Technology project. To go alongside our project, the children have undertaken a web quest to create a whole class fact file on string instruments. So far, the children have learnt what a string instrument is. What a string instrument looks like, the name of some common string  instruments and how string instruments are played. I wonder what else we'll find out as we continue our quest!

Mount Everest with Year 2!

Today we learnt about Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. We looked at why they are significant explorers and how they were able to reach the top of Mount Everest. We sequenced their journey in chronological order and learnt about what happened at each part of their exploration. We also imagined we were climbing up Mount Everest and discussed how the explorers might have felt throughout their journey.

Year 2 - Blast off!

In History this week we have learnt about the importance of Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison and the impact they had on the world. We took part in our own rocket launch and explored how this felt, discussing why it was a global event. We then pretended we were news reporters from all over word and presented our news reports to each other as if we were breaking the news of our rocket launches.
