This week the Fair Trade team met with Mrs Seaton where they used their listening and origami skills to make chatterboxes, which can quiz and educate others on the subject of Fair Trade. Some children used a template and others created their own versions. Ask your Fair Trade team rep if you would like to learn how to make one too!

Meet the Fairtrade Team!
Bannockburn's new Fairtrade team had a fantastic first meeting last week. They worked together to taste, rate and discuss some of the Fairtrade foods available in shops. This included chocolate, bananas and hot chocolate. They also looked at food packaging and spotted the Fairtrade logo.
The clear winner for our Fairtrade chocolate vote was Tony's Chocolonley milk chocolate. At £3 per bar, it is on the more expensive end of the scale but the children loved the creamy taste and the chunky size of the bar. Perfect for a treat and ensures the farmers get a fair deal.

The Great Bannockburn Healthy Bake Off 2018
On Friday 2nd November, the hall at Manor Way provided the setting for our first ever Bake-Off competition. Mr Smales and Ms Kimmins, who is one of our Governors, were judges and the audience consisted of members of the KS2 Fair Trade & Healthy Eating Monitors Team, who were there to scrutinse the ingredients and recipes and then offer their feedback to our judges. The judges tasted over 25 delicious and healthy bakes, from cupcakes to cookies and biscuits to brownies, and the afternoon culminated in a Bake Sale in the hall, with all the proceeds raised going towards our Children in Need fundraising for November.
Well done to everyone who took part and went to such brilliant efforts; the Fair Trade & Healthy Eating Monitors Team would like to say a big thank you also for helping to promote healthy eating across the school.

World Food Day 2018 assemblies brought to you by the Fair Trade & Healthy Eating Monitors
To recognise World Food Day on 16th October, members of the Manor Way Fair Trade & Healthy Eating Monitors Team led two special phase assemblies for our children. Their assemblies made us reflect on our fortunate lives and the fact our right to food is something we might take for granted; we were reminded of our responsibilities to eat healthily, not be greedy or wasteful and to show empathy to struggling farming communities and those who suffer hunger and malnutrition around the world.
