Year 2 - Active Maths

This week in maths we have been taking part in a series of Active Maths lessons in order to practise what we have learnt throughout this term.

We took part in human number lines and addition and subtraction races. We also played an odd and even sorting activity which helped us identify odd and even numbers. Finally, we took part in a times table circle game.

See how it went below!

May is National Walking Month!

May is National Walking Month and usually we would celebrate it by having Walk to School Week in mid May. This year, whilst things are different and children should only be out walking as part of their daily exercise, Living Streets has created a space where you can find FREE resources and activities!

Living Streets will be releasing new resources and fun activities on the page on a weekly basisso keep going back for more.
Remember – during lockdown, it is important that we all follow the latest Government rules to keep ourselves and others safe.
It is also important that we stay connected in every way we can and share any positive experiences. Ask your parents to share your daily walks, thoughts, pics and videos on social media using #WalkingFromHomeas a reminder for families to stick together! Or you could send it in to the school newspaper or working together email addresses.
No matter the times, the walk to school movement is still strong; whether we are walking to or from an actual school whilst our family members do their keywork, or just around the neighbourhood as part of your local daily exercise - walking is a fun, active and healthy activity to do!

Woolwich Winter Warmer

Last weekend over 120 pupils, family and friends came together to represent the Bannockburn community at the Woolwich Winter Warmer Lantern Parade.

After meeting at the Woolwich Centre to collect our lanterns, which were made prior to the event in a special workshop run by Emergency Exit Arts, the parade set off; we walked throught the streets of Woolwich through to the Royal Arsenal, enjoying the festive atmosphere, samba drum rhythms and beautiful lantern artworks that were carried through the town.

The event ended with a spectacular fireworks display
that lit up the Royal Arsenal.

Thanks to everyone who attended; the house points earnt will be added to the current totals very soon.

Be Bright Be Seen - JTA assembly for Road Safety Week 2019

Winter is almost here. The weather is getting worse and daylight is lasting less and less time. When we come to school in the morning, it’s dark. When we go home from school in the afternoon, it’s dark. That’s why you need to Be Bright, Be Seen.

It’s part of our uniform to have thick warm winter coats. But did you know…..they don’t have to be black, navy or dark colours…. In fact … we, your JTA team, are encouraging you to be bright and be seen!

To make yourself visible to cars, you can wear fluorescent coats, hats, scarves and bags to help stand out. These colours stay bright in the darkness and so will help you stay safe whilst out and about. Reflective clothing will make you shine so you become visible to drivers in the headlights and under streetlights at crossing points. Even a small, thin reflective strip on your coat or bag can help keep you visible at night.

There are 5 other important things we want to remind you to keep you safe:

1. Never walk alone in areas where there are no streetlamps or people – keep to the busy, main roads and areas.
2. Don’t use headphones whilst out walking – you need to stay alert and be able to hear!
3. Keep your valuables, like mobile phones, in a safe place like a pocket – don’t get it out unless you really have to!
4. Walk carefully and sensibly around the streets – leaves can be very slippery at this time of year!
5. Remember to cross at the designated crossings like at traffic lights, and use the Green Cross Code: Stop, Look, Listen, Think.

Here is the specially-written JTA poem you heard in the assembly:

Be Bright Be Seen
Wear Yellow, Orange, Pink or Green
Fluorescent colours make you stand out
In the dark evenings, when you’re out and about.
Reflective materials allow drivers to see you
When their headlights shine you come into view
If you need more advice, ask your JTA team
Remember, this Winter - BE BRIGHT AND BE SEEN!

Staff "sports" day

Recently, some staff enjoyed different aspects of wellbeing, by being active and connecting with people, at a staff "sports" day.

There was a little bit of competitive spirit,

as well as showing that team work makes the dream work!

A mixture of the traditional, such as egg and spoon races,

modern contemporary

and games for all.
