UN Spanish Language Day 2023 - extra ideas for you!

This week Year 3 and Year have been honouring UN Spanish Language Day which falls on 23rd April each year.

Here are some additional ideas for fun, simple activities you could do to celebrate the day and improve your Spanish:

- Sing along to a Spanish or Latino pop song

- Watch a TV programme or film which is set in Spanish

- Put your favourite film or TV programme's subtitles into Spanish and look out for cognates

- Eat some yummy Mexican food (and practise pronouncing items properly)

- Use Linguascope or Duolingo apps to learn some new vocabulary

- Read the famous Spanish novel Don Quijote (you can find English translated copies!)

- Check out La Liga football fixtures and see which team is at the top spot at the moment

La chenille que fait des trous - Year 4 French storytime

This term Year 4 have been using their French topic of Food and Healthy Eating to explore language used in a famous children's story by Eric Carle - The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which in French is actually titled La chenille qui fait des trous.

The children used the story to revise days of the week, practise some of the fruits they have been learning and look at more vocabulary linked to food and discuss the gender of nouns.

You can listen and read along to the story here:

British Sign Language Club at Manor Way

Once a week after school Ms Kelly runs her BSL sign language club and the children absolutely love it!

Already they can sign the alphabet, talk about their birthdays, give details about family and friends and are building their confidence so much that they even practise in the playground and teach their friends.

"Signing is really important to help people who can't hear feel included in things."

"It's hard but fun moving your hands to make the signs, I hope to be as quick as Ms Kelly one day!"
