Rhyme Time

On Tuesday morning Acorn Class visited Plumstead library. We were able to have a look around the library and share stories with our friends. We took part in the 'Rhyme Time' session with Eric the librarian, who sang different nursery rhymes with actions.

Whilst in the Forest School, we made a house of sticks for the Three Little Pigs. We worked together to balance sticks on top of each before the Big Bad Wolf came to huff and puff our houses down.

Reception - Pear Tree's Take Away Team!

This week in Pear Tree class we have been thinking all about subtraction. We used a range of resources, such as cubes and number lines, to solve our problems, thinking carefully about the steps needed to find each answer. Afterwards, we made our own number sentences and solved them independently! Take a look at some of our work below...

Year 2 - Beech Class LOVE Reading!

Beech Tree have been using our book corner and topic area to read new books. We have been using the props to bring our reading to life!

Year 5 Elm - French translators of the future!

This week Year 5 have been exploring how informative our Collins Primary Illustrated French dictionaries can be and using them to help us translate texts from French into English. We have been learning vocabulary linked to our Anglo-Saxon topic, so we can compare and contrast ancient settlements to modern towns; in our more complicated texts, there were lots of new words that we needed to look up to translate.

Here are children from Elm Tree Class being dictionary detectives and translators!

MW Staff & Children having Lunch together

Here on the Manor way site it is a regular sight to see the teachers sitting down to eat their lunch with the children. We believe that this is a learning opportunity, as staff can model good dining room manners and eating habits. In addition, staff can converse with the children in a more informal surrounding.

If you came into the dining room today you would have seen Miss Coombs, from Year 3 Olive class, eating her lunch with members of her class.

Australia Day at MW Lunchtime

Today on the Manor Way site we celebrated Australia Day at lunchtime. The children were offered 'sticky BBQ chicken', 'Mango Pavlova' and other special healthy food types. As you can see, the kitchen staff got into the swing of things wearing their traditional Australian hats!

Year 5 Pine - Mini-Chef

On Thursday 25th January Year 5 Pine class produced some delicious vegetarian chilli, which the children sold to the parents/carers at the end of the day on the playground.

Nursery - The Jolly Postman

As part of our learning linked to our topic book, The Jolly Postman, we wrote letters that included a drawing of our favourite fairy tale character. We walked to the local post box to deliver our letters.

On the way back to school, we saw Mrs Jolly posting letters to the local houses. She gave us a wave.

In the Forest School, we had to help the the Jolly Postman collect his letters which has blown everywhere in the wind. We sorted the letters by looking at the number on the front of them.

Miss Dadds went to deliver all the letters with the Jolly Postman.

MW Achievement Assembly

Congratulations to all the children who were recognised in our Achievement Assembly at Manor Way on Friday 12th January.

Year 5 Elm Mini-Chef - 3...2...1... BAKE! Pasta bake...

Year 5 Elm took part in cooking up a nutritious tuna pasta bake. This simple, yet scrumptious, 5 ingredient recipe was cooked for Mini-chef as part of our food technology learning.

We reminded ourselves of the importance of food hygiene and safety before we used our culinary skills to cook up a treat for friends and families at Bannockburn.

It was a great success, as again, Year 5 sold out within minutes and made a profit. We hope all those that purchased our tuna pasta bake will have a go at using our recipe!
