Reception - Pear Tree Celebrate Halloween

This week in Reception we have been learning about events that occur in October. One of those events is Halloween. To further develop our understanding we carved pumpkins and spoke about what the pumpkins smell like, what thy feel like and what they looked like. Here are some pictures of the children enjoying the activity.

Manor Way - Playground Improvements

If you have been at Manor way this week you will have noticed that the two trees on the main playground have fencing around them.

The existing brickwork is being replaced as it was in poor condition due to the tree roots. The brickwork is being taken away and new walls are being built slightly further away from the trees.

Once the brickwork has been completed new seating will be installed around the trees for the children to enjoy at break times.

Year 2 - Save the Oceans!

To begin our English topic this term, we looked at some photographs of the world’s oceans. Unfortunately, we noticed that many of the photos showed lots of plastic pollution in them and ocean animals under threat! We were quite shocked!

Did you know that plastic waste from humans ends up in our oceans? It takes 500 years for a plastic bottle to decompose in the ocean!

Acer Class have decided we need to make a change and persuade others to help the ocean environment!

Look out for our persuasive texts and posters in the next few weeks! what could you do to make a change and stop plastic pollution now?!

Book Quiz Winners to 'Punk Me Up'

On Friday 18th October the winners from this term's Book Quiz went to visit 'Punk Me Up', a ceramics cafe in East Dulwich, where you can paint your own ceramics.

Miss Lacy and Mr Smales took the winners from both High St and Manor Way in the school mini-bus and drove over to East Dulwich.

After an early packed lunch when we arrived in the cafe, the children spent several hours painting their mugs. The children had a great time all sitting together being creative. The mugs needed to stay in the cafe as they will need to be fired in a kiln.

Miss Lacy kindly said she will go back to the cafe during the half term holiday to pick up the children's masterpieces!

Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Soup

This week a group of children from Key Stage One worked together to make pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup using the pumpkins grown in our garden.

Can you believe how big these have grown?!

We began by scooping out the inside of the pumpkins. We collected the seeds as Mrs Parsons took them to roast.

We helped to peel and chop the pumpkins before we could cook it.

Here were are peeling and chopping onions and mixing together the other ingredients that we needed.

Once the pumpkin was cooked we mashed it.

We took it in turns to scoop the mixture into the pastry bases before cooking the pies in the oven.

Here is the final result! Pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup.

We took the soup home to share with our families and tasted the pie at school. We even took some pie up for Mrs Curtis to taste and she thought it was the most delicious pumpkin pie she had ever tasted!
