Year 3: Active Maths

Year 3 took part in an active Maths session this week. We are currently learning about statistics and data handling in Maths. In order to generate our own data, we had to take part in a range of exercises for a minute, such as star jumps, shuttle runs, burpees, squats and hopping. We had to complete each exercise for a minute and our partners counted how many reps we managed in a minute. We then recorded this information on our record sheets. We will use this data to create a table and a bar chart as the week goes on and create questions based on this information.

Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000 in Year 4

 

In Maths this year, Year 4 have been focusing on how we can quickly recall multiplication and division facts. We have spent time recapping and learning new times tables, but we have also been looking at speedy strategies to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1,000. We explored how the place value of digits are affected  when this happens and have practiced by moving numbers along a place value chart. After, we played an active maths game where each player represented either multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 or 1,00 and had to quickly give their final answer in the time it takes to catch a bean bag!

Active Maths- Year 3

For our lesson on statistics this week, Year 3 took part in an active maths lesson! We got up on our feet to collect data, create tally and discuss our findings!

Making 5!

This week in Reception, we did some Active Maths during P.E. We discovered the different ways we could make 5. How many ways can you make five at home?

Active Maths in Year 6 - Long Division

We have been working on the written strategy for long division in Year 6. Working with our partner, we were given different calculations to solve. The answers were hidden around the room which meant we had to move around lots to check our answers matched. Once we had found the correct answer, it told us which question to answer next so we could solve the secret 6-digit code!

Year 2 - Exploring the 5 times table!

 

Last week, Year 2 were introduced to the 5 times table! We explored the pattern within the times table and played a number of 'Active Maths' games to introduce our learning!

Year 2 - Active Maths

This week in maths we have been taking part in a series of Active Maths lessons in order to practise what we have learnt throughout this term.

We took part in human number lines and addition and subtraction races. We also played an odd and even sorting activity which helped us identify odd and even numbers. Finally, we took part in a times table circle game.

Year 3 - Ordering numbers!

This week in Year 3 we have been learning how to order numbers in ascending and descending order. We worked in team to run to a pot filled with different representations of numbers. Once we had collected our number, we ran back to our team. Once all number respresentations were collected, we worked together to create a number line.

It was great fun to get active with our maths!
