Year 5 explore adjectival agreement

As part of their personal descriptions topic, Year 5 have been using the dictionaries to explore adjectival agreement. They have been discovering how French adjectives change their endings to match the nouns they describe - this is adjectival agreement.

"It's hard for us to understand because our language (English) doesn't have gender so we don't need to do this. It's fund using the dictionaries to look up works and work out the different spelling patterns."

Year 6 French Fashion project gets underway

This week Year 6  have started working on their annual Fashion Show; we spent our lesson time this week planning our outfits and translating all the new ambitious vocabulary we will need into French using our French bilingual dictionaries and online dictionary resources. Our next step in the project will be using our new language and manipulating vocabulary Mrs Seaton has previously taught us to build our own description sentences.
Mrs Seaton was so stunned with Elm's efforts she forgot to take any photos of them in action!

Year 4 and their Spanish diccionarios

This week in Year 4 MFL lessons we had our first experience of using our bilingual Spanish dictionaries. We spent time exploring our new resources and the colour system to help us recognise words, plus we also shared discussed the similarities and differences between a normal English and a bilingual dictionary. We then worked in pairs or small groups to look up new vocabulary from English into Spanish.

We then used the sentence stems we have been learning to manipulate our new language to build new sentences to describe our local area. Here are some examples of our independent writing attempts.
