Year 6 have continued to work on their problem solving strategies on the final day of term. Today's problem involved finding the dimensions of a rectangle which was composed from a number of smaller squares. Lots of trial and improvement as well as visualising strategies were required to complete this tricky shape problem. Well done to all of our brilliant mathematicians.
This week we have been looking at choosing an appropriate strategy when problem solving.
Using the NRICH problem, Hidden Squares, we had to think about what the question was asking us to do and the strategy that we would use before we could start to solve the problem.
After talking with our partners we decided that it would be best to visualise the problem and use trial and improvement to help find the solutions.

This term, our Move it Motivators group got together to discuss ways in which we can keep our school on the move.
We decided to design posters in order to promote our local ParkRun at Lesnes Abbey.
Junior parkrun is a series of 2k runs for children held in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. The courses are marshalled so that children will be in sight of marshals at all times. ParkRun is a running, jogging and/or walking event.
In the Summer term, our Move it Motivators team hope to take part in the event and encourage other children at our school to do the same.
We will be taking part in daily miles in order to build up our stamina for the event!
Last week, Year 2 got into the festive spirit by wearing their Christmas and winter themed jumpers! We had a great day taking part in a fashion show and then posing for class photos!
This week, Year 2 have finished their class web quests about orchestras. We started off with the question, 'What are orchestras?' and then over the past few weeks used a search engine to find out information.
We then set to work, typing this information into a Microsoft Word document and then edited our facts to make it eye-catching for our reader.
We learnt how to change the font style, colour of the font and how to underline a sub-heading. We finished off our documents by learning how to search for an image and insert it.
These past two weeks, years 3, 4 and 5 children have been singing along to some holiday music in Spanish. They have learned new vocabulary along with the lyrics of the songs; and they have enjoyed themselves greatly!
Why don't you ask your child how to say "hat" or "beard" in Spanish? Just a few of the words included in the song that described Santa!
