Year 1 Outdoor PE

We have been focussing on working together as a team in our Year 1 outdoor PE lessonsWe have enjoyed supporting each other to collect as many possible points for our teams by collecting bean bags against the clock. We also worked hard to pass the hula hoop between each team member without breaking the chain. A tricky team challenge indeed!

Year 1 Personal Development

This half term we have been focussing on different aspects of  'Being Me In My World'. In our classes, we have been using circle time to talk about the environment we learn best in, the places we feel most safe and moments we have been proud of. We have enjoyed using 'Jigsaw Jerry' as way of showing when it's our turn to talk and when it's time to listen. We have recorded our learning using mind-maps and reminded ourselves of our Jigsaw charter so that we can best work together to listen and share ideas.

Year 1 Visit Plumstead Library

This half term, we had the exciting opportunity to visit Plumstead Library! Each Year 1 class spent an hour at the dedicated children’s library and heard a story read by one of our local librarians. It was brilliant to have the chance to look at all of the bright and captivating books that are on offer to us at our local community resource – there are even books in different world languages, just for children! Every child has received a Plumstead library membership application form. Why not start using yours and head down to the library this half term?

Year 1 Indoor PE

We have enjoyed challenging ourselves to move around a space in different ways in our PE lessons. It has been lots of fun to move like different animals and hop, skip, gallop, tip-toe and jump around. During this half of the autumn term we will continue to develop our ability to move around in different ways and at different levels. Can you spot the animals we are pretending to be?

Year 4 States of Matter

This term in Science, we have been learning all about the states of matter and how water can change between being a liquid, a gas, and back again. To help us understand this, we carried out an exciting experiment in the science lab!

We filled a plastic cup with hot tap water and added a few drops of food colouring. Then, we carefully placed an empty cup upside down over the top. As we watched, something amazing started to happen… condensation began to form on the inside of the top cup! Tiny coloured droplets appeared and collected together.

We drew careful diagrams of what we saw to record the changes.

Some of us thought the droplets looked like raindrops forming in a cloud. We discovered that this is very similar to how clouds are made in the sky! When water is heated, it turns into water vapour (a gas). As it cools down, it changes back into liquid water, forming droplets – just like the ones we saw in our experiment.

This simple investigation helped us see the water cycle in action, right in our own science lab!
