Year 2 - Acer Mini Chef

We had a fantastic time cooking up a feast in the Community Kitchen last week.

Did you taste Acer's Spinach, Tomato and Chickpea Curry? It was delicious!

Look out for more Year 2 cooks coming your way across November and December!

Year 2 - Fractions Fever!

We are learning about fractions in Mathematics!

Fractions are parts of a whole.

We have been learning how to find fractions of shapes, objects and amounts.

Football fever with Charlton Ladies FC

On Sunday 25th November children and their families braved the cold weather to attend a fun-filled day of football organised by Charlton Athletic. The ladies team had a league match against another local team and our children were invited as special guests for the day with their families.

On parent said, "A great turn out from Bannockburn school, thanks for the free tickets.
Great behaviour from our kids and a great time had by all - even in the cold!"

We already work with Charlton Athletic on lots of different projects and look forward to more opportunities and events for the Bannockburn community.

Spanish Cinema Trip at Greenwich Picturehouse

On Wednesday 7th November members of the Year 5 and 6 Spanish club (along with some other keen and able linguists) attended a special screening of Zipi y Zape y el club de la canica (Zip & Zap and The Marble Gang) at Greenwich Picturehouse cinema, as part of the Into Film Festival 2018.

The film is a remake of the old comic book stories and TV series that Marta, our Spanish Club teacher, remembers reading and watching as a child in Spain.

Some feedback for the children included:

"The film was really funny!"

"I heard lots of words that sound like English... lots of cognates."

"It was hard sometimes to watch and read the subtitles so it inspires me to be fluent in Spanish when I am older."

Super Scientists!

As part of our science topic, Light and Shadows, Year 3 have been investigating which materials would be the best for keeping us safe and visible at night time!

We tested a range of materials to see if they were reflective or not. Some materials we tested were not great; others were reflecting the light back or scattering the light in different directions. This meant these materials would be better at helping us to be visible at night time!

We ordered the materials from most reflective to least and made a decision on which to use for our new high-viz jackets! We also had lots of fun being scientists and designers!

Wonderful Writing in Year 3

In year 3 we have been writing the myth of Isis and Osiris in our own words using our best story telling skills and including features such as, speech, adverbials of time, powerful vocabulary, similes and onomatopoeia! Here are some extracts of our wonderful writing! Our teachers are so proud of all our hard work!
