Reception Stay and Play

Feelings and Behaviour

On the 9th March all the Reception classes held a 'Stay and Play', focusing on feelings and behaviour. We invited the Reception parents into school to see how their children socially interact with each other, share toys and work co-operatively to play games and participate in activities.

We were thrilled with the number of parents who attended and showed their support for both the school and their children. It was a good opportunity for staff in Reception to chat with parents and carers about how to support their children socially and emotionally and to help support parents with individual learning needs.

It was a wonderful opportunity to see the parents getting involved in their child's learning and encouraging their self-esteem and confidence.

Please take time to have a look at the photos below
and see how much fun we had.......

Fire Safety

Year 2 were visited by the London Fire Brigade to learn about fire safety. We were able to ask questions, role-play and dress up whilst learning about the importance of fire safety both at school and in our homes.

Sports Reilef

The children in Year 2 raised money for Sports Relief this year! We made delicious fruit salad to sell and ran a sponsored mile! We had lots of fun cheering on our friends and supporting each other as we ran. Even the teachers joined in (but we were faster)!

Nursery are blogging!!

Welcome to the Nursery's first blog post.

In Nursery we like to explore different areas of the Early Years Curriculum, through carpet sessions, outdoor and indoor play.

So far this year our topics have been based around Woodland Creatures. We read 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddell and 'The Gruffalo' and 'Stickman' by Julia Donaldson. After Christmas, we focused on traditional tales; we are currently reading 'Each Peach Pear Plum' by Allan Ahlberg.

We had a visit from the Welling Owl Sanctuary in the Autumn Term and performed a Christmas Carol Concert in St Nicholas Church.

This term we have visited Plumstead library to listen to some stories and pick our own books to borrow. We also dressed up as some of our favourite traditional tale characters.

We make the most of every learning opportunity, no matter what the weather!

Keep checking back for updates on what is happening in Acorn and Conker Classes!

Exploring Chinese Music

Exploring Chinese Music

As part of Year 4's Shang Dynasty Topic, we have been exploring Chinese music through different types of instruments.

The children have been learning about the different classifications of musical instruments in China which include: wood, silk, gourd, stone, clay, bamboo, mental and skin.

To help them understand these classifications the children used boom sticks, glockenspiels, xylophones and bells to recreate the sounds of a Chinese folk song.

One child even used his violin to recreate the tune! The children really enjoyed this exploration and now have a much better understanding of the sounds used in this culture.

One Year 4 child said, "I was so excited to try different instruments and the Chinese music is so interesting."

This is all part of an on-going Shang Dynasty project, where the children are learning to build and create their own Chinese song/music.

You've got a friend in me!

In Nursery, we love nothing more than taking part in all of the fun activities with our friends.

Take a look at some of what we have been up recently with our friends.

In the photo above we were pretending to call our Mummys and Daddys using a telephone. Can you see our messages we've taken down on the clipboards?

We really enjoyed hunting for painted eggs in all of this paper. We had 30 seconds to find as many eggs as possible and place them in a basket. Then we counted how many we had. Afterwards, the teacher helped us to find out how many eggs were found all together.

Sometimes, it can be a little bit scary jumping off of the PE equipment on the Nursery playground. But it gives us lots of confidence when our friends help us! We made sure to land on two feet and bend our knees, so we were safe.

Eltham Palace

Year 2 have been learning about the Tudor Period. We have researched and learnt about Henry VIII and his six wives, explored traditional Tudor dancing and even created our own Tudor Roses. As part of our topic, we were able to visit Eltham Palace, where Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, often stayed. We got to dress up in Tudor clothing and explore the palace grounds. We had so much fun!
