We took a trip to the London
Canal Museum in King’s Cross. Our trip started with a walking tour along the
Regent’s Canal, where we stopped to consider areas of danger and safety,
including its uses both past and present. The canals played a huge role in
industry by transporting grain and coal around the city to fuel the factories
and warehouses in this area.
At the museum, we took part in
a ‘Cargoes Workshop’, where we learnt how poor the roads used to be and why
canals were built. Following this, we explored objects that were transported by
the canals throughout London using ‘mystery bags’ and our senses. Part of the
workshop focussed on recapping the differences with natural vs man-made water
and we reviewed the features of rivers that we have learnt back at school.
