MW Achievement Assembly

Congratulations to all the children who were recognised in our Achievement Assembly at Manor Way on Friday 12th January.

Year 5 Elm Mini-Chef - 3...2...1... BAKE! Pasta bake...

Year 5 Elm took part in cooking up a nutritious tuna pasta bake. This simple, yet scrumptious, 5 ingredient recipe was cooked for Mini-chef as part of our food technology learning.

We reminded ourselves of the importance of food hygiene and safety before we used our culinary skills to cook up a treat for friends and families at Bannockburn.

It was a great success, as again, Year 5 sold out within minutes and made a profit. We hope all those that purchased our tuna pasta bake will have a go at using our recipe!

Run, run as fast as you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man.....

We made gingerbread men from the gingerbread house in our topic story, 'The Jolly Postman.'

We watched a video of 'Miss Dadds Cooking Show' showing us how to make gingerbread men. In small groups we all helped to make our own.

We mixed all the ingredients with a spoon.

We kneaded the ingredients together with our hands, to make a dough.

After being in the fridge, we flatten the dough using a rolling pin.

We cut out gingerbread shapes, placing them on a baking tray ready to go in the oven.

We decorated the cooked gingerbread men using icing pens.

We couldn't wait to eat them before they ran away!

On écrit sur les murs by Kids United - one of our UNICEF Rights Respecting songs!

As part of our singing assemblies we are learning the French song 'On écrit sur les murs' by pop band, Kids United. Here is their video and the song for you to join in with and practise - it's SO catchy!

Here is the link too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV5oVYVGfNc

From there, you can find the videos for all their other songs - they are great to sing along to and improve your French!

Note, Develop and Research! Year 5 become researchers...

Year 5 have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons this half term, which required us to use laptops, books, fact files, Ipads and artefacts from our class topic table to explore our topic further for our English learning.

Today, we carried out research to gather information about Anglo-Saxon life in readiness for writing a non-chronological report. We decided to make notes about a variety of aspects about Anglo-Saxon life, including religion and beliefs, clothing, villages, childhood, jewellery and buildings.

Which website would you recommend and why?

Year 5 know their rights...DO YOU?

Year 5 have been learning about the rights they are entitled to, alongside their responsibilities. For example, we know we have the right to be loved and respected, but also know we have the responsibility to show love and respect to others. A matching activity, where we matched the rights to their responsibilities, helped us think deeper about what is expected from us too.

As a class, we selected a few rights and responsibilities to create our own class charter, which we all had to sign – including the adults!

Finally, in a column, from top to bottom, we had to order the rights from which we thought was the most important, to the least. It was certainly a struggle as we saw the importance in every single one. Therefore, some of us thought ‘out of the box’ and lined all the rights in one straight line at the top to show that they all are important in different ways.

Each class also has a specific right to focus on each month, which right are you focusing on this January?
