Badminton in Year 5

This term, we are learning about Badminton and developing our badminton skills.

To start with, we watched a video of the badminton championships and looked at how the players use their hands and wrists to control the rackets.

We then learnt how to hold the racket by placing our thumb at the base of the racket, allowing us to controls the racket with a flick of the wrist.

We used balloons to get an idea of how to control the racket and the wrist motion needed to develop a backhand pass.

We then used balls to develop this skill further and practised throwing our ball to our partner who would then return it with a backhand pass.

By the end of the term we hope to be using shuttlecocks in a game between our peers.
