Developing our singing and rhythm skills through chanting:
During our Music lessons for the last half term, Year 6 have been experiencing a range of chants and exploring how chants are used all around the word for different purposes, such as to greet somebody, to motivate someone or to try to intimidate someone (for example, the Haka).
We identified the strong rhythm and repetitive nature of chants and used this as our starting point to create our own chants. We worked in our house teams to create chants to celebrate our achievements and to motivate our houses. We wrote our own lyrics and incorporated clapping, movements and stamping. Each group had one person to keep a steady beat. We are hoping to perform some of our chants to our house teams and we will definitely be using our skills to motivate our houses at team events!
