Reading Buddies in Year 2.

The week the children in Year 2 took part in their very first 'Shared Reading' lesson. Shared Reading is a fantastic and enjoyable experience, allowing the children to read with their peers and support one another with their phonics. Here are some of our children enjoying some afternoon reading time, sharing a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. 

Exploring Plumstead Library with Y4 Pine Class

This week, each class in Year 4 are taking turns to visit Plumstead Library. Today was the turn of Pine Class! 

After meeting Patrick, the library manager, the children had time to explore the books and talk to each other about the books they had chosen. Patrick then explained how the library works and how every child could select a book to take back to school with them. 

On the way back to school, the children talked about the books they had chosen and even decided that they should write book reviews so that they could recommend their book to others. 

Reading for pleasure - Year 5

At Bannockburn, we love to read for pleasure. Lots of us enjoy reading at home whether borrowing books from the book corner, accessing Reading Eggspress or listening to audio books. What books are you enjoying at the moment?

Le Petit Prince - the most famous French children's story

Bonjour tout le monde!

Hopefully, you have found time during lockdown to read some 'livres' - whether hard copies from your bookshelf or digital downloads on an electronic device.

One of the most famous classic French children's stories is Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exubéry.

Perhaps you could do a piece of artwork inspired by the story, or use a dictionary to make a list of French words linked to the story to help someone else understand it better? Yr 4 reading with Reception pupils

Sharing a story

Last week, Poplar class and Ash class (Yr4) went to High Street for a lovely afternoon of story sharing with Orange Tree and Pear Tree class (Reception). The children were paired up and sat happily together around the classroom to read to each other and to talk about their favourite books.

In class, the Year 4 pupils have been learning to retell traditional and fairy stories and they did a fantastic job of retelling tales such as Snow White, The Gingerbread Man and Cinderella to the younger pupils.

The teachers were particularly impressed by the way the older children took on their roles and worked with the Reception children. They demonstrated a kind and caring nature and were positive role models for our younger pupils. Well Done Year 4!

Reading Recommendations

On Friday, children in Year 5 Aspen spent some time rotating around the room sharing their current reading books with each other. It was a lovely way for them to hear recommendations.

Year 2 - Beech Class LOVE Reading!

Beech Tree have been using our book corner and topic area to read new books. We have been using the props to bring our reading to life!

 

Year 5 - Orchard have found a bug... BUG CLUB

Year 5 Orchard have been using their laptops to go onto Bug Club. We focused on the use of grammar to improve our own grammatical knowledge; some of us looked at possessive apostrophes and prefixes, whilst others were exploring common misspelled words.

We were also able to read some books; this gave us the opportunity to answer some questions regarding what was happening in the story and questions that asked us about why and how the author uses language in specific paragraphs.
