Perimeter in Year 4 Poplar Class!

Poplar Class have been measuring length in centimetres and millimetres and then using our knowledge of length to calculate perimeter. 

To find the perimeter of a shape you need to add all the lengths around the outside together! We used Rally Coach to coach our partners to calculate perimeter. 

Then, we created the letters in our name using squared paper so we could investigate perimeter further!

Have a try yourself at home! Remember the squared paper we have is 1cm long per square! Can you attempt other words?

Miss Bethell awarded the whole of Poplar Class a merit this week because she has been so impressed with how we have settled back into school this term.

Poplar Y4 - Back to School

A HUGE Welcome Back to all the children who have returned to school! It has been so nice to see you over the last few days.

Year 4 Poplar class have made a great start - asking thoughtful questions about the changes we have in school and following the new rules that are in place.

On Friday, we enjoyed taking part in a STEM challenge making Robotic Hands! Miss Bethell was impressed with our perseverance and determination when attempting to put the materials together to make the hand move.

Reception RB - Our Second Week in School

Reception RB have had another fantastic week in school. 

This week, we have been learning about 2D shapes in Maths and describing animal habitats in Literacy. 

We enjoyed using the geoboards to make 2D shapes with elastic bands. We counted how many sides and corners each 2D shape had. 

Then we used our knowledge of 2D shapes to build a shape snake just like the snake from the Gruffalo! Do you know where snakes live?

Finally, we wrote super sentences to describe the woods. We are remembering to use a capital letter and a full stop! Below are some of our amazing attempts at writing independently!

A group of Gruffalo's have been spotted in Bannockburn School!

Luckily, they were following the social distancing rules, keeping two metres apart, washing their hands and keeping safe!

Year 2 - Amazing Arctic Writing

We have been reading The Rainbow Bear by Michael Morpurgo in Year 2.

We decided to plan our own stories based on the text. Firstly, we read the opening, build up and dilemma of the story. Then our teachers taught us the events and resolution to the story using 'Talk for Writing' so we could all become great story tellers! Finally, we edited the story by changing the characters and events to make it our own.
