October's Language focus is Romanian

The International Ambassadors Team met last week for the first time this academic year; their aim is to celebrate our school's diversity and help ensure we all develop into empathetic, kind and thoughtful global citizens. 

They decided that each month we should all try and address each other for the register in a different language each month, for which Romanian is October.

Here is our poster for October- can you say Good Morning and Good Afternoon yet? You've got until the 1st November so get practising!

 

Multicultural Menu Ideas from the International Ambassadors Team

On Wednesday 12th February, Mrs Seaton and the International Ambassadors Team, one of our 16 Community Partnership leader Groups, met with Jo-Anne and Rose from Independent Catering, who supply our school with our yummy school dinners!

The aim was to discuss some more multicultural themed days for Summer Term and next year; we talked about ideas that we have for days which celebrate different cultures, using our own knowledge and experiences, and how it could link to our learning or global affairs, such as a Japanese food day to honour the 2020 Olympics.

We are looking forward to our next meeting when we can hopefully plan a couple of different menus for the Independent team to investigate further; Jo-Anne explained how the food is always freshly prepared, healthy and sourced as locally as possible, to keep the carbon footprint as low as possible, so these are all important factors we will have to consider.

Polish school partnership - Pollution in Poland

Some children from Grade 5 (equivalent Year 6) at a school in Poland called Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny w Chynowie got in contact with Mrs Seaton, after they heard about our local area & pollution-themed photography competition. They wanted to see what our local area is like and what kinds of pollution problems we suffer with in South East London; their school is in a village called Chynów, which is in a rural area approximately 40km from Warsaw (capital city). They have sent us some pollution-themed photos from their town. It looks like they have a problem with litter and fly-tipping... what could they do to help stop this?

It is hoped we might exchange letters with this school in the future and work on some more projects together - tell your International Team rep(s) about any ideas you on how we can collaborate!

ShoeShare fundraising with Clarks and UNICEF - collection day

This week Clarks (the shoe shop) sent a delivery driver to the Manor Way site to pick up the record number of shoes that we collected as part of our fundraising for International Education Week.

Some children from the International, Rights Respecting and Fundraising Teams were drafted in to help get the bags in the van - in the end, we had to get extra recruits in to help load up!

Again, well done and thanks to everyone who brought in their old, unwanted shoes and in an email to me they have said they too are 'extremely grateful.'
