Pollination - Year 2

In Science, we learnt about the pollination process and why it is important for plants to reproduce. We know that for pollination to take place , insects such as bees are needed. We then made our own bees and plants to role-play the pollination process.

Dissecting flowers in Year 3

In order to learn about the different parts of plants and their functions, Year 3 spent this week's Science lesson dissecting a flower and labelling each part. We discussed the role of each part of a flowering plant and considered how they all work together to keep the plant healthy.

The Gardening Team spruce up Manor Way

This week the PLG group scheduled to meet and work with Mrs Seaton were the Gardening Team. With Mr Hanks' support and guidance, they planted some new plants in the recently empty flower bed at Manor Way, working in pairs to dig, plant and nurture their plants into the ground. The children also planted some sweet peas which they hope will grow prettily up the cane frames they helped construct. Finally they all took home their very own tomato plant which they are going to take care of.

What a wonderful way to get ready for National Gardening Week 2023 next week, when we will hopefully having more green-fingered fun across both sites.

Manor War Gardening Team are GO GO GO!

At Manor Way this week, some members of the Gardening team (one of our 16 Community Partnership Leader groups) spent an afternoon planting bedding plants and flowers that were donated to us from the gardening team at Greenwich Park.

We planted them in the long strip of ground between the Lodge and the astroturf, and took turns in our small groups to dig the earth, plant the flowers and fill in the holes, whilst also feeding them a little drink of water to start them off nicely hydrated.

Some quotes from the team:

"It was a bit cold but I loved getting dirty and involved in the environment."

"I don't have a garden at home so I like doing gardening at school."

"It will help make our school even prettier"

Green Fingers in Year 2 Acer!

Can you believe it?

During our plants topic this term, we have been growing beans in the classroom! Miss Bethell can’t believe how tall they are! I wonder if we will grow a beanstalk?

We must all have green fingers! We have also planted sunflower seeds and are watching the stages of plant growth. Hopefully, we can plant them in the High St playground!

Our green-fingered Gardening Club at Manor Way

Today some Key Stage 2 pupils from Gardening Club toured the Manor Way playground to examine and assess the current gardening plots. They looked at the soils and current plant growth, and with the help of Mrs O'Boyle, planned some new exciting ideas for the house gardening plots and discussed how else we make great places for growing and harvesting, exploring and relaxing at Manor Way.

The High Street site has an amazing array of plants, fruits and vegetables which grow there and which are included in out school lunches and cooking - we hope to do something similar at Manor Way so watch this space.

Year 2 Sycamore Class - PE & Pollinating Bees!

Our current Rainforest topic has got us learning all about plants!

In PE this week we have learnt how bees help to pollinate flowers. Some of us pretended to be bees, thinking of different ways to travel and move whilst collecting pollen from the plants.

Can you guess who were the Venus fly traps?

Year 4 Ash - Plant adaptations

In science, we matched vocabulary and definitions explaining how plans have adapted to their surroundings. We worked in groups to order what we thought was the most important through to the least important adaptation.
