Year 4 - Maths Investigation Week - Oak Tree

On Friday, Oak Tree took part in a Maths investigation which involved using the laptops for repeating patterns using Cuisenaire rods. We discussed any patterns noticed and used problem solving vocabulary to support our thought process about each pattern. We then decided on a clear and general rule to help others understand the problem so that they were able to continue their Cuisenaire rod patterns.

Active Maths at High Street site

At High Street we have been busy trying to bring Maths to life and have launched 'Active Maths' to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
'Active Maths' is a mixture of P.E and Maths and allows the children to use their independence skills to solve a variety of fluency and problem solving tasks outside of the classroom.
Here are some of the children hard at work and having lots of fun at the same time!

Reception (Pear Tree) - problem solving

We had a problem this week in Pear Tree. We were given the Code-a-Pillars but we weren't allowed to touch the carpet spaces when getting them!

We all stood around the edge of the carpet trying to reach, but it was no use! We searched the classroom for things to help us until we came across long tubes. Several of us selected them and tried to sweep the pieces up by ourselves, whilst others opted to team up and push them towards each other.

Check out our teamwork below...
