This week in Science, Year 3 have been learning about different kinds of soil. Based on our soil investigation, we discussed what we had observed. We also identified the different features within each type of soil. In addition to this, we also reflected on the purpose of soil, the importance of it and what it provides for animals, plants and humans.
In Science this week, the children became geologists for the afternoon. In the lesson, they learnt what rocks are made of. The children discovered that rocks are made of minerals and that minerals occur naturally in the Earth. Following our learning, Year 3 had a chance to explore the rocks for themselves. They used hand lenses to identify and classify rocks. Then, they investigated and compared features of rocks on Venn diagrams, grouping them by colour, permeability, texture and size.
