Reading Rangers PLG group meeting

The Reading Rangers PLG group have met to discuss and reflect on the events of World Book Day at Bannockburn.

They also spent time using the iPads to research books on the Usbourne website that they would like the school to order next year, thinking about a range of different reading interests and age groups. This pupil voice will help teachers when choosing new books to buy for our school.

Finally, they spoke a little about the impact of our school weekly 'Book Swap' on encouraging the pupils at our school to enjoy reading for pleasure and enabling children to access a range of different books. We created colourful, informative posters to add to the Book Swap display, which aimed to catch people's attention and provide useful information about the scheme.

The Book Swap is held after school on Wednesdays at Manor Way (in the gazebo).

Meet the Reading Rangers! (National Poetry Day)

Last week, the Bannockburn Reading Rangers met for the first time this year. On the 6th October it was National Poetry Day, so we discussed what we already knew about poetry and considered how best to read poetry aloud. We talked about how poetry doesn't need to rhyme but normally has some kind of rhythm or momentum. We also thought about how we can use expression, hand gestures and take note of punctuation when reading poems to others.

We had a range of poems which were themed around the environment (this year's Poetry Day theme) and enjoyed reading these poems in small groups. We then came together to read our poems to the group. Our aim was to perform these poems for our class in celebration of National Poetry Day. Some of our classmates even got involved and performed these poems too!
