Manor Way Ventilation Investigation by our Pupil Leader Groups

Some Pupil Leader Groups from Manor Way site have recently been conducting an investigation into ventilation around the site, as our old Victorian school building there are traditional sash windows which do not allow as much air to flow through as we would like. 

Supported by the JLT, our Eco-Squad class reps have been measuring the CO2 levels in each class using our measuring devices.

Next our Premises Personnel team conducted a search of the building to see if there was strong evidence to suggest CO2 levels should be higher in rooms where there are more old-style windows and therefore suggesting less ventilation. Then the Digital Leaders met to discuss how best we can present the data collected; they learnt how to use Excel to create tables and graphs. Finally, our JLT reps met to plan persuasive letters to send to the council in order to get more support for changing our windows.

Work in progress - Windows project

A selection of our Manor Way Pupil Leader Groups have been coming together this term to work on a joint project at Manor Way site. The issue was first raised by our Junior Leadership Team who expressed concern that many children in classes complained that our old Victorian sash windows are not allowing enough air to ventilate the building. Since receiving the CO2 devices in the Autumn Term, in the wake of the pandemic, the children have been paying more attention to Co2 levels, room temperatures and ventilation in their classes. 

Firstly, the Premises Personnel team met to conduct a window inspection around the main school building.

Next, the Eco Squad class reps (with JLT rep support) helped collect data each day on CO2 levels in their classes. A week later, then met again to validate their daily data findings.

Then the Digital Leaders worked with Mr Tuthill to display the data in a clear and concise way using Excel and creating graphs.

Finally, the JLT team met with Ms Truong to write a persuasive letter to the council for their support in improving our ventilation and refurbishing the old style windows. 

Premises Personnel are proud of our school

 The Premises Personnel team helped tidy up some spots at Manor Way this week. Firstly, we helped reunite some lost property items with their rightful owners by checking for names on items. Next, we went outside and helped sweep up some of the leaves that have blown onto our astroturf and into the gazebo. Finally, we wiped down some outdoor benches which had got wet from the rain. 

Mr Bradshaw was so impressed with the teams efforts that he gave out some house points to those who helped.

The Premises Personnel team turn detective!

The Premise Personnel Team spent some time on Monday afternoon checking the lost property for names in the hope of reuniting some items with their owners.

We found names in a few items which made a good start, and even found a Parisian beret that had been lost by a teacher- can you guess which teacher it belongs to?!

The Premises Personnel Team would like to remind you of the following:

Please label all uniform items and anything you are bringing into school with a name, ideally first and second name or even just first name and class.

Try not to leave items such as coats and water bottles on the playground; if you do, they will go into the Daily Trug which you can check through later in the day - it's kept outside by the Gazebo. At the end of the day anything left will then go into the official Lost Property basket.

Premises Personnel pupil group meeting

The Premises Personnel team, one of the sixteen Community & Partnership Leader Groups at Bannockburn are on hand to help keep out school clean, tidy and safe, and help build an amazing learning environment for us all to enjoy.

Last week the MW Team met with Mrs Seaton to help Mr Brizzell clear the huge amount of fallen leaves that are starting to cover the staff car park and Manton Road entrance. They used litter pickers and brooms and some specialist equipment to help make the tough job a little easier.

After their fantastic efforts, Mr Brizzell declared "What a great team! They can come and help me with all sorts of jobs in the future!"
