Winter Festive Stay and Play Acorn and Conker

 

Nursery Class Conker and Acorn enjoyed a wonderful Winter Festive Stay and Play! Parents were invited into nursery to join in decorating festive biscuits and making cards. We were delighted to welcome Mrs Manser and some Year 4 pupils, who sang beautiful festive songs for us. The classroom looked magical, decorated with lots of festive cheer – a lovely way to celebrate together! 🎄✨

World Book Day in Nursery

In Nursery children participated by dressing up in outfits inspired by their favourite words or books. We engaged in shared reading of our favourite stories, including "The Tiger Who Came to Tea" and our class book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." We also enjoyed various activities based on these books, such as cutting and sticking letters and sampling fruits mentioned in the stories.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Nursery

We were introduced to a new book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Our teachers organised various activities to help us engage with the story. For example, we created a caterpillar in the classroom by gluing different materials onto a cardboard cut out. We used green tissue paper for the body and foam buttons for the eyes. Additionally, we worked on challenging puzzles that helped us learn more about the caterpillar’s body and used adjectives to describe it, which improved our communication and language skills. The highlight of the experience was when we used watercolours to paint a caterpillar on glass.

Recycle, Reuse, Reduce in Acorn and Conker

Last week at nursery, we embarked on an exciting journey to learn about caring for our planet. We explored the story of "Somebody Swallowed Stanley," a captivating tale highlighting the importance of preventing plastic pollution in our oceans.

In Acorn Class, we were inspired by Stanley's adventure of being transformed into a colourful kite. With creativity flowing, we crafted vibrant fish using recycled paper. To bring our fish to life, we carefully added tissue paper scraps that glimmered like scales and used bamboo sticks to hold the fish. The classroom buzzed with enthusiasm as we shared ideas on how to protect our marine life.

We also learned to sort our rubbish into the correct bins during fruit time. We ensured that all fruit peels and scraps went into the food waste bin, paper items were placed in the recycling bins, and plastic waste was disposed of in the black bin.

Meanwhile, our young explorers in Conker Class took the initiative to keep our environment clean. We ventured into the forest school, where we enthusiastically collected litter and discovered the beauty of nature around us. The children learned the importance of tidiness and the joy of working together to safeguard our precious planet.

Chinese New Year in Nursery

Lunar New Year

This week, the children in Nursery have been learning about Chinese New Year. They have been told to look out for a full moon in the sky on Friday as this signals that the Chinese New Year will begin the next day. We all had a celebration and made some decorations in preparation for this. The children made streamers, lanterns and deacons and danced to Chinese music. As it is going to be the year of the dragon, a dragon appeared for our dance!
