This half term, the Year 2 children will be making puppets as part of our 'Stories through Music' topic. This week, the children have had the opportunity to explore how to sew using the running stitch. It took a lot of concentration and patience!

Year 2 have begun a new Talk for Writing text, 'Peter and the Wolf'. To introduce the children to the text, the whole of Year 2 designed and created warning signs! Take a look at some of our signs below.
We started this week exploring the human form in Art.
With a partner, we worked together to create different letters of the alphabet. We then moved our learning on by thinking about how to create body parts from plasticine. We used techniques such as, rolling, pinching, twisting and squeezing.

This week in Humanties, Year 3 learnt about how fire was used during pre-history. We discussed how fire was used for warmth and cooking but also progressed to being used for making weapons. We built our own fires and role played how our fire would have been used.
During lockdown, Year 5 enjoyed reading the story Letters from the Lighthouse. Inspired by this, we are now going to design and make our own lighthouses.
This week in Design Technology, Year 5 studied the purpose and design of some of the world's most famous lighthouses. We discussed how their colour is determined by their surroundings. If they are red and white, that is to make them stand out against a light background; if they are white or pale in colour, it makes them stand out against a dark background. We also learnt that the reason that they are often circular in shape is because this design allows them to withstand pressure from high winds and heavy rain.
After being inspired by lighthouse designs from around the world, the children planned their own lighthouses that they will make using cardboard and paper. We then discussed how we need to include a light at the top of our lighthouse and amended our designs to include an electrical circuit with a light.
