French in the Forest School

This week  Year 5 are taking their French lessons outside and used our Manor Way Forest School as their learning space.

As part of the lesson, the children took part in a Sentence Search, where they hunted high and low for French and English translations of different sentences. All sentences contained the verb Jouer (to play) but using different pronouns; the children said it was a fun way to discover and explore French conjugation for the first time.

Here are Aspen and Rowan enjoying their outdoor learning.

Our first Linguascope certificate of the year!

Did you know that when you are doing your online language learning using Linguascope, you can take a short test on the vocabulary topic to assess your reading, listening and writing skills?

It's a great way to see how well you recognise the new vocabulary, and once completed you can generate a certificate to show your score and the words you have been learning. You can take tests in all the languages, by clicking on the second to last box on the activities page.

Mrs Seaton loves to see your additional learning so if you can print the certificate yourself, bring it in to show her! Or you can always email it into the school address for the attention of Mrs Seaton and she'll get to see it there!

Here's an example of one certificate belongs to a superstar linguist from our school!

Year 5 explore adjectival agreement

As part of their personal descriptions topic, Year 5 have been using the dictionaries to explore adjectival agreement. They have been discovering how French adjectives change their endings to match the nouns they describe - this is adjectival agreement.

"It's hard for us to understand because our language (English) doesn't have gender so we don't need to do this. It's fund using the dictionaries to look up works and work out the different spelling patterns."

Year 5 Art - Dragon Eyes

Year 5 have made clay dragon eyes inspired by Beowulf, our book this term.

Children practised using the score and slip technique to join pieces of clay together and enjoyed decorating their eyes using paint and glitter.

We hope you like looking at them!

Year 5 Love Following Instructions!

Over the last couple of weeks in English, Year 5 have been writing instructions. Before they started writing their own, we thought we should see if they could follow instructions - so we set them off on a scavenger hunt!

Working in groups, the children had to read their instructions carefully so they knew how to complete a series of different challenges. We managed to incorporate many different subjects in our English lesson that day and enjoyed some sunshine in the Forest School.

Wig Wig Trade in Year 5 French lessons

As part of our MFL topic this term which is Describing People, in today's Year 5 French lessons the children practised using adjectives of length, colour and style to describe hair during a hilariously hairy edition of Mrs Seaton's favourite Kagan game Quiz Quiz Trade - Wig Wig Trade!

The children practised describing their new luscious locks using the following structure:

J'ai les cheveux + length adj. + colour adj. + style adj.

There were several excellent sentences being spoken, as well as lots of laughs and giggles too!
