Year 6 strut their stuff for the French Fashion Show

This week in Year 6, after weeks of hard work, our Autumn Term learning cumulated in a series of French Fashion Shows where the children worked in groups to create a fashion look and then describe their model and the styling using all the knowledge of French they have gained. As each group took to the catwalk, the rest of the children used cue cards to express their opinions on the clothes and looks being showcased.

The children also had time to reflect on their group project process and their final outcome.

"I am usually quite shy in class to read and speak aloud so I was nervous but am proud I did it."

We are the new Y6 School Newspaper Editorial team for 2020-2021. We had our first meeting this week where we decided our editorial roles and responsibilities and got our shiny new reporters notebooks, ready to get our ideas and articles written down.

We really want you to help us and Miss Chapman, who will be taking over the organisation of the Bannockburn Bugle for this year, produce the best editions we can and so remember to send in any submissions you think are cool, interesting or that you are proud of and want to share with the whole community! Or you can share an idea for the paper with your class rep for the School Newspaper Support Squad who can share the idea with us - it's their job to help promote the paper and get as many people involved as possible!

Au revoir Year 6!

I just wanted to posted a little farewell message to all the Year 6 pupils who have their last day; it's a huge shame the circumstances have meant most of the usual end of year fun has been missed, but I hope you can still look back fondly on your time at Bannockburn.

I especially hope you have all enjoyed your French lessons with me over the years: if you end up doing French at your secondary school, I hope you enjoy your lessons and continue to make great progress; if you'll be doing a different language, I wish you lots of luck and hope you can use all the skills I have taught you over the years to help you grasp your new languages. 

I also have thoroughly enjoyed working with so many of you on other projects, such as Streetdance Club, School Journey 2019, community partnership leader groups, school newspaper, trips, performance, talent shows, House events, school fayres.... the list goes on! I hope you share my fond memories and will use these experiences, plus the Bannockburn school values, to help you to continue to grow into kind, ambitious and hardworking young adults.

I hope I will get to see many of you back here at Bannockburn when you come to visit us, as you show off your smart new uniforms and tell us about all the new exciting things you are discovering at secondary school.

Persevering with our Periscopes in Year 6 Elm Tree Class

This week in Elm Tree we used our scientific knowledge and our DT skills to build periscopes using recycled boxes. 

It was a difficult yet really fun challenge; through working in groups and showing values such perseverance, cooperation and effort, we all made contraptions, some of which were successful and worked exactly as periscopes should work. 

World Children's Day 2018- Take Action!

Today is World Children's Day: on this day, many people and organisations around the world take the opportunity to reflect on how we can improve children's access to their rights worldwide.

Unicef are leading a campaign to put pressure on world leaders so that they commit to making sure every child in the world has access to their rights.

Yera 6 Elm: Discovering Science

Elm class visited the Science Museum this week to explore electricity for ourselves. We had tickets to the exciting Wonderlab, where we were able to carry out lots of different experiments for ourselves.

Some of us also visited the first floor of the museum to find out about how the first electricity was generated- we were amazed at the size of the machines and how many different parts and processes they carried out.

We also were invited to 'Live Wire'- an interactive show about electricity. One of the Science Museum 'Explainers' led the show. We saw and participated in some practical experiments about conductors and insulators and generated our own power to power some disco lights!
