Fun lunchtimes at High Street for World Smile Day

To recognise World Smile Day, children at High Street spent their Monday lunchtime taking part in a Make Them Smile gameshow, to help raise awareness for the cleft lip and palate charity Smile Train.

The children could tell their silliest joke, do their craziest dance move and pull their funniest face to try and turn Miss Bennett's and Miss Lizzimore's frowns upside down!

At Manor Way a similar game took place after school where Miss Truong was a fierce competitor!

Hope these pictures from our day bring a smile to your face too!

World Mental Health Day

This Thursday is World Mental Health Day.

Children are invited to wear as much yellow as they can (the rest of their clothes are school uniform please).

Also, bring in your best joke. Test out your jokes at home with your families, then pick the best one and bring it to class.

Children will also be decorating the playgrounds with positive messages and pictures in chalk.

Remember.... Ochre House are yellow, yellow is a bright colour, brightness comes from sunshine and the sunshine is YOU
What can you do to make sure you brighten up someone else's day?

Laughter is the best medicine - World Mental Health Day is approaching!

On Friday some children from the Manor Way Wellbeing Team met with Mrs Seaton to get ready for World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October.

They talked about why yellow is such a positive colour and why it makes people feel good, and then practised some of the activities that will be occurring throughout the day to promote Positive Mental Wellbeing.

We told jokes and and had some laughter therapy; there were some classics, some silly and some downright wacky jokes but they had us all in stitches! Mrs Seaton even cackled like at witch at some!

Then we planned out some positive quotes and phrases that we can use to decorate the playground with on Thursday suich as:

You are amazing, just the way you are.

Never give up hope.

When people try to bring you down, just keeping going up!

Don't worry, be happy!

Be yourself!

You are enough.

Follow your heart!

If you are ever feeling down, find someone to talk to, don't hold it in - in fact, talk to your Wellbeing Team class rep - they will always try to make you feel better!

Jean Petit is dancing with Year 3

To link to their Science topic of The Human Body this term, Year 3 have been learning the body parts in French. As well as all the usual fun language lessons with Madame Seaton, in their Singing Assemblies they have been learning a French song called, "Jean Petit qui danse", which is a famous French folk song with African musical influences. The song is about a monk who uses all this body parts in his dancing, and it has proved to be very, very, VERY catchy, among pupils and teachers!

You too can sing along with the song by using the video here.

Some quotes from Year 3 children about their singing:

"I love this song, it's so funny!"

"It helps me learn the body parts because we repeat it lots and lots."

"Even though it's hard to sing the really fast bits, it's fun to try and we can show Humour with our friends."

"Mrs Seaton makes us laugh with her funny dancing."

And one from the teachers!

"Mrs Oliver loves dancing with her shoulders to the épaules section."

Year 6 enjoying Lunchtime

Lunchtimes at Bannockburn are great fun- our outdoors apparatus is particularly popular. You can see some of our Year 6 pupils testing their strength by seeing how long they can hold themselves up on the wooden posts!
