Year 1 Design their Meal

Children were introduced to Food Tech this term. Today they learnt that in order to design a meal, you need to choose the ingredients you want and plan how to make it. They learned that if it has seeds, it’s is a fruit, otherwise it is a vegetable. We can eat different parts of plants such as flowers, stems, leaves, fruit and roots. Children tasted some different vegetables and chose which one they would like to include for our class dish. We then completed a design sheet, listing ingredients, equipment and method.

Hawthorn Mini Chef

On Friday, Hawthorn class in Year 5 used their expert food technology skills to make a World War Two vegetable pie. It was popular in the 1940's due to rationing.

Check out the recipe for yourselves. Can you make it at home?https://the1940sexperiment.com/2016/03/13/the-original-lord-woolton-pie-recipe-no-151/

Year 6 Birch Mini-Chef Monday 13th Nov

For our mini-chef we cooked a delicious seven vegetable curry along with some naan bread.

We were all involved in the different stages of the cooking.

Here were some of our comments:

"It was fun working together!"

"I liked kneading the dough to make bread."

"I liked the spice level of the curry!"

"The bread was my favourite!"

Hazel Tree's Mini Chef

Today, Hazel Tree had their mini chef and made summer vegetable pies. They followed a recipe, chopped their vegetables, cut their pastry and then decorated them. With the left over pastry, they made jam tarts! The children also learnt about how to prevent cross contamination, where food should be stored, different cooking methods and utensils and how to find allergens on food packaging.
