Year 6 Problem Solving
This week we have been looking at number and place value.
We discussed using different problem solving strategies to help us work out the answer:
- Looking for patterns or relationships
- Working backwards
- Trial and improvement
- Visualising
- Conjecturing and proving
- Reasoning logically
- Working systematically
We worked in pairs and discussed which strategy we would use to solve problems involving negative numbers.

Problem solving in Year 3 - drawing a diagram!
In today's Maths lesson, Year 3 practised the problem solving strategy of 'drawing a diagram'. This really helped us to see the problem clearly and understand what we needed to do. As we solved the problem, we filled in thought bubbles to help us work out what the question was asking, clarify any unfamiliar words and decide what we needed to do first in order to tackle the problem!
