Poplar Mini Chef - Year 4 - Roman Feast

 As part of our topic learning inspired by Diary of Iliona, Poplar Tree explored Roman food and daily life by preparing a traditional lentil and barley stew alongside Roman-style flatbreads. Using knowledge gained from our reading, the children made connections to how food was grown, prepared and enjoyed in Roman times. They also learned about the importance of food safety and hygiene while cooking. After preparing and tasting their dishes, the class proudly shared their creations with the school community by selling them at the end of the day—bringing history to life through a hands-on, delicious experience!

Year 1 Computing

Children enjoyed learning about different commands when making Beebots move. They wrote code to sequence its movements, predicted which square it would land on and recorded the instructions as code.

 

Food Technology and Mini Chef Year 1

Children enjoyed their day of Food Tech. They planned, prepared, evaluated and sold a healthy Italian Minestra.

 

Year 6 Computing

Programming in Scratch

This term Year 6 have been learning all about variables in programming, using Scratch, and have already practised creating variables in simple games and projects. Next week, they will be applying their skills to debugging and improving a jailbreak game, created by Bannockburn's computing lead, Mr. Baxter. The game involves collecting keys to escape jail, while avoiding the guards. Both the finished game and a broken version of the game have been made available to the children within their Scratch classroom, and they will be attempting to debug it by finding the mistakes with the variables. They will also have a series of challenges to complete, such as adding extra food and guards. 

Battle of the Wraps with Year 2.

In Food Technology this week, we designed, made and evaluated our own wraps. We had three different food groups to pick an ingredient from, which were protein, dairy and fruit and vegetables. After some taste testing, each groups decided on their favourite combination before making it. 

Creating Rhythms with Year 2.

 In Computing this week we explored rhythm. We created patterns and used those patterns as rhythms. We then used un-tuned percussion instruments and computers to hear the different rhythm patterns that we created.
