Year 6 Reward Trip - Greenwich Maritime Museum

This week, 14 Year 6 children who have consistently displayed our school values were chosen to enjoy a Reward Trip to Greenwich Maritime Museum. The museum has many interactive exhibits and the children were able to act as explorers, work on a dockside and even navigate from the bridge of a ship. Everyone had a great time and learnt a lot from the experience.

We don't talk about.... our Encanto reward afternoon for Year 3 Spanish learners!

As a reward for their commitment to learning and effort towards their Spanish lessons, last week a group of Year 3 pupils enjoyed an afternoon with Señora Seaton, where they enjoyed tasting lots of traditional Spanish snacks, such as tortilla de patata con chorizo, pimientos o espinacas, whilst they watched the Disney film Encanto, which is set in Columbia, South America. They also took part in a quiz to practise the new Spanish words they had learn through watching the film as there are lots of Spanish and Latino references made throughout the film.

Festive Fundraising at Abbey Wood Station

On Friday a group of Festive jumper-wearing Year 5 and 6 children from a combination of Pupil Leadership Groups - Community Champions, Junior Travel Ambassadors and Fundraising Team - visited Abbey Wood Rail Station, where they performed a selection of Christmas carols and festive hits for commuters using the station, who could make a donation in our collection bucket if they so wished. Their enthusiasm and effort created a " sterling performance" according to one of the customers using the station.

Kerry Vye, station event organizer said, "We are pleased to confirm that a total of £46.68 was raised in donations. This is amazing, particularly as the event was conducted during off peak time, which is the station's quieter period. Our station colleagues were overjoyed at having the children sing at Abbey Wood station, and the customer feedback and comments throughout the session were truly heart-warming."

 

Year 6 Elm's reward trip to Whitstable

Children from Elm were very lucky with the weather for their reward trip to Whitstable Beach. It was sunny and warm, perfect for lots of swimming.

The children were chosen due to their positive attitudes to learning, always trying their hardest, excellent behaviour choices, good attendance and for consistently showing our school values. 

 

 

Year 5 - Reward Activity

This week, eight children from Year 5 were selected to join Mrs Parsons in some arts and crafts. They were selected for showing many of the school values in the classroom and around the school throughout this first half term - well done!

Year 2 Pizza Express Reward Trip

A group of lucky Year 2’s visited Pizza Express today on a reward trip. 

Luckily, the trip even linked to our learning on healthy eating as we learnt about how to cook pizza in a hygienic way and about the ingredients you need to make pizza dough. 

Did you know there are five main ingredients to make pizza dough? They are flour, water, sugar, salt and yeast! 

We have some fantastic junior chefs in the making! Thank you for Pizza Express in Bexleyheath for having us!

'Back to the Romans' Reward Trip

For our first reward trip of this year, children who were selected by their teachers, travelled to Cineworld at The O2 to see a showing of Horrible Histories ‘Rotten Romans’.

The children enjoyed the humour and the facts that the film brought, giving them a basic knowledge ready for our topic of The Romans later next year.

The children were especially luckily as they got to attend a questions and answers session with the film makers. One question which was asked was how long in total did the film take to make. Answer: The film took 3 years to write, 5 weeks to film (4 in Britain and 1 in Bulgaria) and 3 months to edit.

Quote, "I can't wait for the film to start... its going to be epic!"

Intu Film Festival - Reward Trip

A huge group of lucky children across Years 1, 2 and 3 visited Bexleyheath Cinema today after being given free tickets from the Into Film Festival. 

Each year, the Film Festival gives children in schools an opportunity to experience watching a film at the cinema for completely free! They also share resources and activities we can complete back in school to support and extend our learning, as well as send our teachers updates on how to use film clips within our lessons and learning. 

At first, we thought we had the entire cinema to ourselves but then two more schools turned up! We had a great time and a good laugh at such a funny animation movie! 

Year 5 Reward Trip to the Tate Modern

On the 13th March 2018, selected children from Year 5 went to the Tate Modern on a Reward Trip with Ms Sikkens to explore how we experience feelings through exploring art.


The main attraction was, of course, the Super Flex exhibition in the colossal Turbine Hall.

This exhibition is all about playing, cooperating and having fun together and consists of about 20 swings, with enough room for 3 to swing together.

In the other half of the Turbine Hall, when it was clear enough not to disturb members of the public, we rolled down the rainbow hill under the giant swinging pendulum!

We also went to the top of the viewing gallery to look at the London Skyline:

Finally, we looked at other art in the free exhibitions. The children couldn't believe that they were really standing in front of the actual works of art that had been created by some very famous and influential artists. Everybody recognised Matisse from a project in Year 3. Look at how BIG some of his original work is!

Kandinsky was also popular because his use of colour and shapes made everyone feel happy and playful.

Some art work was very new and had us staring at it for ages...

Some art was made by us by drawing into the orange carpet wall. It felt lovely and soft.

Of course, no trip would be complete without documenting the packed lunch!
