Fraction fun in Year 3

This week we are learning all about Fractions! During this lesson, we were exploring the idea of a whole number and what a fraction looks like when we make a whole.

Counting in fractions with Year 3

Today, Year 3 began learning how to count in fractions. We looked at how to count in halves, thirds and quarters and practised this as a class. Then we made our own number lines counting in fractions. We showed fractions of shapes and wrote the fractions next to it. 

 

Making a whole in Year 3

This week Year 3 are continuing their learning on fractions. Today, we talked about what a whole number was and how we show this through fractions.

We explored this further using cubes for example, 2/4 red cubes plus 2/4 green cubes equal 4/4 which is the same as a whole.

Fractions in Year 5

Our Year 5 pupils have been learning all about fractions this term. This week, they have been focussing on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. They have been working together to apply their learning to some tricky problems. Well done!
