Year 3 - Forces Immersion Day

Last week, Year 3 took part in our 'Forces Immersion Day'. We did a variety of activities that helped us to learn about the different forces that are at work around us everyday. We learnt about gliders with Mr Kirner and thought about how different materials would increase air resistance creating better wings that would make our gliders stay airborne for longer. With Ms Dalton, we created magnet mazes, constructing mazes and seeing if we could navigate our way around them. Mr Cartlidge taught us how to write haikus about force. A haiku is a style of poetry from Japan the only uses seventeen syllables in a 5-7-5 structure. Mr Gunnoo did a dance workshop on forces vocabulary such as 'attract', 'repel' 'orbit' etc... 

 

 

Y3 become Ancient Egyptians for the day!

Year 3 had their immersion day for this half term where they spent a whole day learning about Ancient Egypt. Their activities included:

Learning about why scarab beetles were an important symbol in Egypt. They then made their own out of clay.

Reading and writing using hieroglyphs

Making their own pyramids

Designing their own Ancient Egyptian collars

Year 2's Wilderness Day!

 'Wilderness' is the new topic this half term for Year 2!

To introduce our new topic, we took part in exploring various habitats from around the world. The children learnt about deforestation in the rainforest, created their own new planets when learning about space, used the VR goggles to experience mountain ranges and took part in an experiment to understand how blubber keeps animals warm in the Polar regions.

Year 2 Immersive Day- Nocturnal Animals

 

To introduce our topic, 'Into the Forest', Year 2 took part in an immersive day. We had a visit from 'Exotic Explorers' where the children met some nocturnal animals. They saw a flying owl display and were able to hold or pet many animals including snakes, giant millipedes and skunks. The children finished off their immersive day by enjoying a craft project based on our core text, 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'.

Y4 Roman Day - Designing and Building Catapults

So that Year 4 could learn more about the Romans, we spent today completing different activities. In Ash class we built Roman catapults! We looked at how effective catapults were for Romans as weapons and what made them so powerful. We then used lollysticks and elastic bands to create our own.
