Ash class take on mini chef! - March 2022

Ash class did a brilliant job in preparing a healthy, satisfying and cost-effective aubergine and potato curry as our mini-chef challenge!

Not only did the class cook the curry, we also put on our sales hats and sold the pots to adults at the end of the day. We had a lot of happy customers!

Mini-Chef with the Manor Way Healthy Eating Monitors

As part of our campaign to support our community to stay healthy and eat well, the Healthy Eating Monitors Team from Manor Way took over the Community Kitchen last week, where we created a delicious veggie pasta bake. Containing courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, onions and peppers our veggie bake was packed full of nutritious delicious goodness, with garlic and fresh basil to help season our pasta dish.

Everyone got involved in the planning and preparation process and we were so proud to sell our meals to our community.

The Healthy Eating Team from High Street will be creating something special soon so watch this space!

Wellbeing - get moving!

Now that it is getting colder, it may be harder to be motivated to get out and about.

However, it is still possible to get moving and help the children to enjoy exercise.

A healthy body and a healthy mind makes a happy child.

There is a website called 'GoNoodle' which makes exercise fun and made to feel like playing an interactive computer game.  https://family.gonoodle.com/

The people at mommypoppins.com have a list of 25 ways for families to get active at home. Keep the focus on the fun and exercising won't be a chore—and maybe these ideas will inspire your family to devise more entertaining ways to get moving.

1. Headstands: A great activity for your core muscles and to get blood going to the brain. Kids are often naturals.
2.Skipping: If you have downstairs neighbours who complain, go in the hall or outside your building (keep 2m away from others).
3. Obstacle course: Create a furniture course in your home or take chalk and make a course in your garden. Add in specific mental or physical challenges to keep them guessing.
4. Wheelbarrow, crab, and bear-walk races: Holding one of these tough positions gives you a real workout.
5. Animal races: Hop like a bunny or frog; squat and waddle like a duck; and so on.
6. Balloon ball: There are endless ways to play with balloons indoors. Try to keep it off the ground or just play catch. Mix it up with balloon tennis!
7. Follow the leader: Add to the workout with energetic movements such as jumping, stomping, and squatting.
8. Dance party: Turn on the music and shake your groove thang.
9. Freeze dance: When the music stops, freeze in your pose and hold it until the music begins again.
10. Scavenger hunt: Write up clues and hide them around the home. Kids can race to find each clue for a small prize at the end.
11. Jumping jacks: Simple, but good for coordination and they get your heart going.
12. Parachute: This kiddie gym standby can be re-created at home with sheets. Each kid takes an end of the parachute or sheet and fans it upward while one of you runs underneath.
13. Bubble wrap attack: If you get bubble wrap in the mail, jump on it until it's all popped.
14. Clean-up race: Set a timer or put on a song to see who can tidy the room the fastest.
15. Tickle tag: Chase your children. When you catch them, it's tickle time.
16. Temper tantrum: Have a fit for the fun of it. Flail, stomp, and scream.
17. Carnival: Set up carnival games such as "Knock Down the Milk Cans" (you could use Tupperware).
18. Hallway bowling: Fill up water bottles and use any ball you have.
19. Hopscotch: Use chalk or tape to make a game on your floor or outside your building.
20. Pillow fight: No explanation needed.
21. Sock skating: If you have hard floors, put on socks to skate around. Try spins or hockey stops, or see who can slide the farthest. Make sure to move the furniture and watch for splinters.
22. Bubble bashing: Blow bubbles and let your child try to smash them.
23. Wrestling: Put down a mat, or play on a rug or bed. See if your kids can wrestle you to the ground (safely!)
24. Pushover parents: Plant your feet and see if the kids can budge you. If you move your feet, they win. Stand on one foot to make it easier for little kids.
25. Popcorn push-ups: Put a small bowl of popcorn on the floor. Lower yourself down and stick out your tongue to get a piece of popcorn with each push.

Year 6 Birch- Food Technology

In Food Technology, Birch Tree Class have been learning about where our food comes from and whether they are reared, grown or caught.

Healthy eating and lifestyle motivation with Madame Seaton

Bonjour Bannockburn!

I hope you are all safe and well and finding lots of activities to keep you learning new things - don't forget to check the blog for French things I recommend; you can even use the Labels to search!

I have been trying to eat beaucoup de fruits et legumes to help me stay feeling good and healthy during this time. I have also been managing to find a little more time to enjoy my cuisine where I can enjoy cuisiner or prépaper les repas. Quatre fois par semaine I have also been going à pied au parc, where I can do a 5k walk or slow jog for an hour. The other days I try online video classes of yoga, danse ou aerobic.

Here are some posters with lots of cognates on that I have been looking at, to remind me how to stay healthy with le sport et la nourriture. Have a look at them and see what you can understand using the cognates (the words we can guess because they look familiarly like English!)

Maybe you could use an online dictionary like the Collins online French Dictionary (like the ones we use in school) to make a poster reminding everyone (including me - keep me motivated!) of what healthy foods we should be eating! Or what kinds of activities we can do at home to keep our bodies moving!
Here's the link https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-french

You can also use Linguascope too - they have some sections on Foods and Sports you can use to help you!
