Year 2 Geography- Exploring the world!

Year 2 have been exploring Google Earth, globes and atlases to find out more about Planet Earth. Today we focused on the equator, North Pole and South Pole. We realised that the curvature of the earth affects how hot or cold countries are.

Bannockburn's Community Champions

The Community Champions met last week to discuss how we could positively impact the community. We decided on writing to the Ahoy Centre, a sailing centre in Deptford which supports disabled and vulnerable people, to offer our services!

We thought about the values we could show and then split into groups to write the various paragraphs of the letter.

We will be visiting the Ahoy in the Summer Term to litter pick on the beach and find out more about the centre.

Maths - Year One

This week, year one have been learning how to subtract in a variety of ways. Here we are practising how to take away using a number line. We started off by circling the biggest number then remembering to jump backwards.

Timelines in Reception

In Reception we have been thinking about time. Time over the year, week and a day. We used words such as yesterday, today and tomorrow as well past and present. To help us we created timelines that showed all of the things we need to do before come to school in the morning.

Sewing with Damson Tree

In DT this half term Year One have designed and started making their own bags. This week in Damson Tree we have been practising how to do a running stitch on binca and then used these skills to begin to sew our bags. Next week we will attach our handles that we made from the material we tie dyed and decorate our bags.

Hawthorn Science

Year 5 have been developing their investigative skills in Science.
Here Hawthorn decided what their independent and dependent variables were, decided how to control other variables, and made and tested catapults. They used their DT skills to make the catapult.

Hawthorn Mini Chef

On Friday, Hawthorn class in Year 5 used their expert food technology skills to make a World War Two vegetable pie. It was popular in the 1940's due to rationing.
