This week, Year 2 have been exploring poetry in Guided Reading. We started off the week by giving our thoughts and opinions on a variety of ocean themed poems. We then identified rhyme, stanza and imagery within each one. For the rest of the week, we then chose an ocean poem to rehearse in a group focusing on performing with intonation and expression!
In PE this half term, we have been learning about aerobics.
We have learnt how it is beneficial for our bodies and practised engaging our muscles to have greater control of our movements,
We learnt new moves including jumping jacks, lunges, squats and mountain climber!
At the end, we created our own aerobics routine.
This half term, Year 2 are exploring dance within P.E. To tie in with our topic, Year 2 have been learning different dancing techniques and exploring how we can move our body in different ways to represent the life cycle of a plant.
This half term, Year 2 are taking part in an 'observation over time'. Our investigative question is, 'What do plants need to grow?'. To take part in this investigation, each group has planted a different seed and placed each in a different condition. We will observe our seeds every 2 weeks to see how they have changed.
This half term, Year 2 are learning all about continents and oceans. Today we took part in a variety of mini games that included map reading skills. The children had to read and locate all 5 oceans and the 7 continents.

Yesterday, Year 2 took part in an immersive day to introduce our new topic; 'Into the Forest'.
The children took part in a nocturnal animal encounter experience, learnt the story of Hansel and Gretel through dance, learnt how to map read and recapped the parts of a plant. Take a look at some of our learning!
This week, Year 2 have been making music for different purposes. As part of the lesson, we had to make a musical piece to represent an animal. We used Chrome Music Maker Lab.
In English this half term, Year 2 will be learning how to describe different settings. To help us with our learning, Year 2 will be focusing on the text 'The Tunnel'. To help the children engage with the story we set up a spooky tunnel to help the children understand the concept of 'portal stories'. Here are some of the brave children entering it!
Year 2 started off the new academic year today! The children were introduced to their new topic 'Human Nature' and began the topic by learning how to make shapes with their body.
