French in the Forest School

This week  Year 5 are taking their French lessons outside and used our Manor Way Forest School as their learning space.

As part of the lesson, the children took part in a Sentence Search, where they hunted high and low for French and English translations of different sentences. All sentences contained the verb Jouer (to play) but using different pronouns; the children said it was a fun way to discover and explore French conjugation for the first time.

Ochre House has a brave, fierce and loyal new member......

The Ochre House captains met our new friend this week. They've promised to show all the values, they've agreed to take part in the Fun Run, they'll make appearances at the school fairs and have pledged that they will do all they can to make Ochre House a roaring success this year and get some Yellow ribbons on display!

However as yet our new friend doesn't have a name! So send in your suggestions for a name for our new Lion mascot and we will vote for their name together in our next house assembly.

Dancing through the Decades for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

As part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday 26th May, children at both High Street and Manor Way sites will take part in a special performance of Dance through the Decades. 

Here is the routine for you to watch, copy and learn, ready for the big day. 

It features some of the most successful British musical artists of all time and flows through a variety of popular music genres of the decades from the 1950s right up to 2020 - how many bands, singers or genres can you recognise? Your adults might remember some of the hits - get them to join in with your practising at home!

Fun lunchtimes at High Street for World Smile Day

To recognise World Smile Day, children at High Street spent their Monday lunchtime taking part in a Make Them Smile gameshow, to help raise awareness for the cleft lip and palate charity Smile Train.

The children could tell their silliest joke, do their craziest dance move and pull their funniest face to try and turn Miss Bennett's and Miss Lizzimore's frowns upside down! 

At Manor Way a similar game took place after school where Miss Truong was a fierce competitor!

Group 1A School Fun

Class 1A - This Week's School Learning

It's been another busy week in Group 1A, where we have create poems in English using our senses, creating posters in History and carried out another experiment in science. Have a look at our photos below.

We created acrostic poems by thinking about things that remind us of Summer. 

In History we looked at how the 2012 Olympic games changed Stratford. We then designed posters which are meant to persuade people that it would be a great idea to hold them in London again. 

This week we did some close observational drawings of flowers. Firstly, we sketched an outline before adding colour. Take a look at our pictures below. 

This week we made predictions about what we thought would happen if we put flowers in coloured water. When we return to school next week we check to see if our predictions were correct. 

This week we have been practising our horizontal and diagonal joins in handwriting. 

To write these poems we used out senses to help describe the things we see, hear, smell, touch and taste.
